I love the new "Genius" feature in Itunes. I have over 30,000 songs in my library and I do not listen to all of them. Today, Im in a mood for some Supergrass, so I have Genius produce a 75 song playlist and I got some real gems out of it. Songs that Ive had for a while but havent listened to.

Today's favorites:

My Party - Kings of Leon
Two Kinds - Film School

If life is but a dream, wake me.

For the last few days all I have listened to is:

Scritti Politti - "Cupid & Psyche 85"

I'd post a picture of the LP cover but I don't know how.

Hit the 'insert image' icon above the message window and paste a link to a pic of the LP cover in between the two of these -->[img].

You can usually just google for an image of the cover.

Chris, my older sister was into Scritti Politi back in her teen days. Can't remember what they sounded like. Can remember some fringy undercuts or something. For her it was this, the Knack, early INXS and the Young Ones on TV. Me, I had Slade and AC/DC goin' on.

Merzbow-Alishan. Love those pulsations. Offa his last CD Coma Berenices. Just read about the Coma Berenice today. Very interesting constellation.

We'll they were pretty 80's, put it that way. I just can't get over how inventive some of the arrangements are and how good the production is and haven't been able to listen to anything else since about Friday. Also I'm a sucker for the sound of a Fairlight CMI:

No doubt one of the greatest LP covers, EVER. I've still got my original vinyl copy from 70, or maybe it was 71. Love that record!

Finally stumbled across the band thats fired my imagination at the end of last year. I kept hearing this sound on the radio but for some fateful reason could not catch the name of the band....

Leader Cheetah - "Bloodlines" off their forthcoming album in Feb09. Great stuff.

Geno, if you're into the Saab, you're gonna love this stuff. lots a Rickenbecker 'jangle' happening and riffs from the same that blow the mind. Friends of the Besnard Lakes I see. Not that i've listened to the Lakes yet, but have heard good tidings about those guys from Mr Franklin i believe!

Anyway, an Adelaide band Croz! You might even know them..Leader Cheetah!!! And the best thing is that just as i've discovered their name, they're playing at a pub just down the road from where i work in Newi next week. Best day of the year so far. I'll take it. What makes me stoked about this band is these days its rare to get stoked about a sound.

A sample for ye all..http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=170008164

While we're on the topic of bands like Leader Cheetah, Neil Young etc..
Check out these guys from Portland Oregon. They do the alt Americana thing quite well; interesting blend and great songwriting (which is always one of my focal points in listening to bands). Blitzen Trapper. Try the song Lull, off their myspace site. If Bob Dylan sang melodiously instead of with a snarl, he might have done a song like this.

Blitzen Trapper hey Geno. The Nick Drake and Pavement references are about right. Thought there's a bit of Eels in there too. (and a dash of Lynard Skynard) Thanks for the link mate - very quirky cruisy.

Edgard Varese-Arcana. Turn it up as loud as possible. Invite the neighbors. The best music to get one out of complacency.

It sounds really good. There's some cool bonus stuff, but not an awful lot of it. The early version of All Right Now is cool and there's a couple of tracks from the BBC thing. Their BBC session really needs to be officially released because it kills. Isle of Wight too.
