Cherry,Cherry-Neil Diamond. Sorry, I know Neil might be king of cheese sometimes, but the groove on this one is undeniable, and I do love his voice, even now. Rock on, Neil!

Neil has been unfairly tagged a bit over the years. He's a top notch writer.

Hocus Pocus by Focus

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpV5InLw52U

This video smokes pretty much bout everything I've seen in like the last five years.

Man... Neil Diamond. Cedar paneling. Orange burlap curtains. Gold shag carpet. Zenith Wedge. Allegro speakers. With brilliance control. Model glue. Soolaimon. Funny car models. Hot August Night. Burgers on the hibachi. Metal box fans. TV off. Curtis Mathes tube console in the front room but the CB radio is in the living room with the Zenith. Just bought WINGS AT THE SPEED OF SOUND.

Curtis Mathes teaches me about stereo. Only the Wedge gets cranked when they're out shoppin. The 8-track records off the radio. In 1979, WDAI played Pat Benatar and P-Funk back to back.

Curtis Mathes tells me Lennon's been shot.

The remake on So What is too polished, and it is great. I like the "trainwreck" sound he gets with his guitar at the end, on the original. But it is such a great fookin' song, either take.

Agreed, both of them are cool in different ways. Either way, those early Joe records are really underrated.

Joe Walsh-Fallin' Down. Hint: it's in an open tuning, that's where that great sound comes from...The lyrics and feel of that song are both incredibly beautiful.

Open G it is, but man, I messed up. The tune with the open G tuning is Help Me Through the Night, Mama...same album. Falling Down now that I reflect upon that one can be done in standard. So yeah, correct tuning, Lopes, but my bad, wrong tune! Fuck, I'm slippin. too much brain damage...

Falling Down has one very cool chord that's not common in rock; used in Jazz every 2 seconds, practically, and one I'm sure you're familiar with... It's a Minor7flat5.

The chord sequence is thus:

Fmajor //// Dmin7b5/Cmajor////
Fmajor//// Dmin7b5/Cmajor///G///Fmajor//

Emin/Amin///Emin///Fmajor
Fmajor///G..hammer on C (ie C/G chord) x2

Amin-Emin-Fmaj-Cmaj (rain kinda says it all in the city, falls softly to the ground..)
Amin-Emin-Fmaj///
Amin-Emin-Fmaj-Cmaj
Cmaj/// Dmaj...repeat, back to start. Thass all folks.

Now use this voicing for yer Min7b5 and it'll sound just like Mr.Joe:

5th string (A) index finger on 5th fret (D note).
3rd string(G) middle finger on 5th fret (Cnote).
4th string(D) ring finger on 6th fret (G# or Ab note)
2nd string((B) little finger on 6 th fret (Fnote).

When positioned correctly the chord "shape" will be a parallelogram, if one were to link the fingertips as points using lines.

Now, I'm going to go put that one on...it's too amazing.

El Geno

Don't have a favourite song in the bunch yet, but I'm just starting to get my head around the new Doves album - Kingdom of Rust. Any fans?

Though it packs a softer punch, I swear I hear a couple Swervie licks in here. The 2nd half of "The Greatest Denier" reminds me of a Doves/Swervie mashup. I'm digging it!

Anyhow, pound for pound, a pretty damn impressive trio to hear live IMHO.

That first record being "Guitar"? I bought that one after I had all the Rounder releases, the first one of which is simply titled Tony Rice, and...is a must. Not as much of a blazing guitar solos album although there is plenty of that, as much as the traditional arrangements and some of the best vocals he ever did.

Cornell's too with Timbaland and Justin Timberlake (I haven't been able to bring myself to listen to it yet). Shame, I saw Cornell solo about a year ago and he sounded great (better than when I saw him with Soundgarden).

Today, "Bye Bye Badman" - The Stone Roses

I have no idea what's currently going through Cornell's brain. More than likely, it's $. Once he scores that duet with Britney, maybe then he'll be content.

Either way, who cares? Seen the TADGARGEN footage?

Being a huge Tad and Soundgarden fan, you can imagine how great I think this is. What I wouldn't give for a reunion of either band.
