It's pretty much a mac geek thing, but Apple is switching to Intel processors.

Causing a pretty big ruckus in the World of Apple.

From 'lopero's #1

Enon - Pleasure And Priveledge
The Helios Sequence - Cut The Camera
The Eagles Of Death Metal - I Only Want You
Adrian Belew - Of Bow And Drum

Man Loper you have a cunning knack of finding tracks that join onto each's back beautifully. I have loved it all really.

Thouroughly unimpressed by the new Coldplay. The songs don't touch the ones on the last record. The new Oasis however is particularly damn good.

Okay, this one may sound kinda weird, but it is the funniest song I've heard in a long time.....in a William Shatner / David Hasselhoff sort of way ( you must check out Shatner's cover of Lucy In The Sky sometime!). I nearly crashed this morning from laughing when I heard it :

Paul Anka's cover of Jump, by Van Halen! Swing band and all!

Aparently, he though it would be a good idea to do lounge versions of popular rock / pop songs, such as: Wonderwall-Oasis, Blackhole Sun-Soundgarden, Eyes Without A Face-Billy Idol, and Teen Spirit-Nirvana, to name a few!

I can't get it out of my head!!!!!!! I need help!

Brooks, if you are into the novelty vibe, you should also check out Richard Cheese's "Lounge Against the Machine". Is a Lounge Pianist who covers Nirvana's "Rape Me" and Radiohead's "Creep" to name a couple.

Brooks, you're a dork. And it takes one to know one. Shatner does an amazing version of Pulp's "Common People" with Joe Jackson (Ben Folds produced his latest album "Has Been"). Whaddya mean you aren't a member of the First Church of Shaternology? No titheing to the mighty toupée?

Okay - I better shut up - maybe I'm the only dork here...

Allow me to have a cheezy Jon Landau moment here: I have seen the future of rock and roll and its name is The White Stripes.

But damn, "Get Behind Me Satan" is so delicious... check "The Nurse", on top of "Instinct Blues", which I'm already OCDing over... also check "I'm Lonely (But Ain't That Lonely Yet)".

The White Stripes have a lot more to do with the future of rock and roll than Springsteen ever did...

I respectfully disagree. I think the new Stripes proves them to be a one trick pony. They're trying to step out a bit, and at least to me, it just sounds dumb.

Hey Croz - tell me more about The Laybacks "Feel Lighter Tonight" from your vol. 3 WAB please.
I really love this tune!
The singer kind of reminds me of Neds A Dustbin - but in more of a sonicshoegazerishlytypeishish setting.

loper: Hmmm... that's funny - I see the earlier WS stuff as being more one-dimensional. Kinda had written them off already until I heard this new one, although I had fun covering "Why Can't You Be Nicer To Me" with a band a while back.

But that was what the Landau ref was sposed to indicate - that I knew the heady charm would wear off, as it did for Springsteen

Yeah exactly. The past stuff was indeed more one-dimensional, and they were incredibly good at it. I hear them trying to expand a little bit, and I just don't think they're that good at it. They're a damn good AC/DC, but they're no Led Zeppelin.

careful fxhosa, it can be addictive, but enlightening also.

Rocketc, The Laybacks are a local Adelaide Band, though i think its really one guy driving the thing Thomas Barton. They dont have an lp out, but i did go and see that guy play solo a last year. Not as good as with the rest of the band unfortunately. I have 2 tracks here by them. I think they may have never gotten far off the ground which is a shame as when i stumbled over these track i was pretty stoked. Ill email you my other track, and relisten to the cd i bought of Thomas Barton and send you anything worthy from it too.

Havent heard new Coldplay or White Stripes yet. Not really digging Oasis yet but only played them once. They usually grow alright, though i doubt ill go back there when theres so much other good gear to suss out.

Like today when i replayed Moens first burn;
Ill Lit - Beating The Daylights
tHe Drop - Bleach 27
One Line Drawing - Stay (lush) Have you ever drawn someone with one continuous line? Is looks cool no matter if you can draw or not.
Aloha - With The Lights Out, We Sing

Okay, I'm back down towards earth a little more today.....finally got that Paul Anka song out of my head. Did it by picking up 'Methodrone,' by Brian Jonestown Massacre yesterday at lunch, so today's song is:

'Crushed' -BJM, this song is just awesome!

Boomer, you're right I am a dork! I have a strange fetish for cheesy, bizzare muzack! Nothing like Tiki Lounge samplers! It's funny you mentioned the Shatner / Joe Jackson tune. My wife and her brothers are the treckies, she first introduced me to the origonal Shatner album, 'Transformed Man,' a few years ago. Oddly enough, she is also a HUGE Joe Jackson fan! I mean crazy JJ fan! May have to download that one for her!

Consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.

Brooks - I'm pretty sure there is a thread on one of these pages called Shatner Sings - where I put a direct link on it...

Thanks Croz - that other Laybacks tracks is cool too. Great guitars! ...and I agree - continuos line work rocks!

fxhosa - I love Sonic Youth!

Today...
Gerling - "G is for Sadness" (though I'm pretty sure the studio version would be even better!)

I also have the "Highly Illogical" album by Leonard Nimoy. I assume you have the Golden Throats CDs. I went through a Novelty phase when I was working at my college radio station, so I amassed all this stuff. (That's my big disclaimer, BTW).

Y'know I really like that track also, Rocket, but the rest of the CD was just so-so to my ears. Very mellow, but none of the tunes come close to that one. Did you like the cover of Lay Lady Lay?

oh damn - never realized there were any covers. I'll need to listen to it again and pay attention to that. I agree - some of it is just so so... and "Happiness" is the greatest track - (such a nice acoustic guitar riff goin' on... ) but, there were several tracks that I thought were very well done and beautiful. nice Sunday morning music.

Ah yes I love Modest Mouse. They're one of the only current bands getting lots of airplay I really enjoy... Probably them and QOTSA (at least I think Queens gets airplay? Haven't turned that thing on in a while!)

Today it's: Subjects and Matter - A Northern Chorus ..and.. Foreign Friendster - The Nein

Both Toshack labelmates! Well... I think...

Really good discription coming with each recommendation here. Well done ppl.

Ive been loving a Verve track too Duress.
Today
The Verve - Slide Away
Terra Diablo - Swings And Roundabouts
Terra Diablo - Can You Hear Them? (my favourite so far by Terra, good work Terry!)
Stereophonics - Mr Writer, the only track ive ever really gotten into by these dudes.

All from Trik's Virgin Comp, and listening to it after a long break has been truely lovely and has suited the drive today. Recently, the drought has broken (first rain this year!)and there are rainheads streaming across the landscape which I have big views of from some choice vantage points at times. A pity broad acre farming is the cause for me being able to see so far, but at least the farmers kids are happier.

these guys got there gaze on! - I wonder how the rest of the CD is? They are on my hot want list for more...

i found this board whilst procrastinating studying for exams and searching for info on autolux's turnstile blues video...which brought me to your playlist posts with autolux, and this forum for swervedriver! two bands i fucking adore.. i don't think i've listened to anything close to the amount of times ive listened to future perfect in the past year, and was stoked with serene and surreal and juggernaut rides rekindling my early 90's swervies/shoegaze loveaffair...

and right on re: guiding light, best song on that album, the rest is quite good, but i prefer their first album the curse of..

fav songs lately;
pale saints - you tear the world in two
autolux - blanket
jesu - tired of me
swervedriver - juggernaut rides
astrobrite - booster
the warlocks - gypsy nightmare
