Gald you like it Boomer! I wrote a bit about that track in the WAB thread to Scott.
btw - I've been having a blast going through the SXSW disk you compiled. But, at the same time - I am going to have to bill you for adding about 30 bands to my want list! - I can't keep up!!!

WOW - So, Interloper - you're already gone and back again eh? I asked you about it in the WAB thread - but, you were probably gone at the time...

99th Dream - Oh yeah. My favourite Swervie track for vocals.

I am loving JR again. Thanks for the competition again Brad.

So apparently the only listing for that Helios Sequence CD on Amazon is $29.95... I did a quick google search for the band name and out of 44k sites what do you think was the first link presented?... the favorite song today thread.
Do these guys have an official website or am I just spelling the name wrong?

On the way to work this morning I blasted BSS "you forgot it in people" all the way.

Forgot to mention today...
Epo 555
the track off Boomers SXSW comp disk.
That is a killer tune - just checked on amazon and they only have 2 disks available - and cost $19.59! Damn...
when I tossed the disk in it set up as song title alphabetically - I should have noticed and been listening to band title alphabetically - but, too late now - I have to get through it this way at least once ya know. I'm only like half way through I think?

are you up and awake Croztralian?

Hey Rocket,

I've heard of that Bowie comparison with BSP before. I don't really get it that much either, maybe a little. I do get the Echo and the Bunnymen comparisons, though. Maybe not so much in the vocals, but in some of the music. The Decline Of is definately a grower album though (at least for me). At first I thought it was pretty good, put it away for a few months, and forgot about it. Eventually dug it out again, and after a few more listens became hooked. They are also one of those bands who sound even better live.

But, for me today, its' a tie between........

Za and Rush Hour Soul by Supergrass! I was just in the mood for this album today! Don't know why....

Consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.

cool man - Love Supergrass!

yeah - the first time through BSP I thought it was just O.K. -
but, the 2nd time I was like - wow - that's really cool / and that's really cool etc...
I'm sure the 3rd will get even better...
it was the extra tracks - that really pulled me back in to go another round...

Thanks for the tip on Autolux Crozarey - they're sublime. An amazing cross between My Bloody Valentine and Sonic Youth - can't believe they're from L.A.

Ha Ha High Babe - by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

I bought Black Rebel Mototrcycle Club's Take them on, On your Own a while back and never listened to it. I'm doing so as I type, and I like em. Got a little Jesus and the Mary Chain style going on Ha HA High Babe. Not bad.

Just discovered Jack Adaptor. They have three tracks from their first album on their site. Lead singer used to front up a band called The Family Cat, which some UK swervies may recall.

That East Ash Song on Rockets WAB is fucking awesome. I keep hitting the back button on my car's CD player everytime that song plays. Its got that wicked bass line and the vox sound like a darker version of Black Francis. Excellent choice, Rocket.

NICE! I'm a closet Lips fan! Love The Soft Bulletin! I hear they are going to release a 5.1 mix on DVD-Audio soon. The Yoshimi DVD-A is incredible! Have you tried the Zaireeka album yet? Four discs ment to be played simultaneously on four different stereos. Crazy shit!

today it's "Crushed," by The Brian Jonestown Massacre

wow - that's crazy Brooks - the 4 disk thing...

Actually, I'm kind of going through a re-birth...
I had a buddy that had Transmissions from the Satellite Heart - with the "she don't use jelly" song on it long ago.
I always thought that was pretty good - but, I never explored them any further.
I saw them live back then too.
Well, recently a friend loaned me "The Soft Bulletin" and "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots"
I think both are pretty dang good.
I'm wondering if opening my mind to Grandaddy has in some way opened me up to The Flaming Lips later work?
I don't know - I might have liked it anyway?
But, the two bands have similar very light vocal styles in a way...
I'll probably let these soak in a bit more and then decide whether I should keep expanding the collection.
so much music - so little time...

Bulletin,Zaireeka, and Yoshimi are all pretty similar, kind of a natural progression, and probably the bands best out put. But it can be kinda a pain in the ass to listen to Zaireeka (either need 3 people to help, or 4 CD players in the same room and work out an elaborate timing plan)it's fantastic, but I've only been able to listen to it 2-3 times all the way through.

So who is Grandaddy?

Consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.

that does sound nuts! Id love to hear that! It sounds like it would be ideal as some kind of art installation piece; you enter the room sit on the chair in the middle of the room triggering the 4 play buttons and whammo, you have quadraphonic action! Never been a big fan of the FL's but have only really heard Yoshimi. Id pay to experience that though.

Today

Had a nice stereo session last night revisiting "She's Beside Herself", and it still gives me the goosebumps. The guitars are just so savory...

For further exploration into the Flaming Lips catalog, may I suggest "Hit To Death In The Future Head". I used to back up a girl who was a acoustic-guitar-n-vocals-in-a-coffeehouse type act, but she wanted to try playing in front of a rock band. I talked her into doing "Holloween on the Barbary Coast" from HTDITFH as a cover, and it was a freakin blast

HTDITFH sounds pretty sparse, instrumentation-wise - it was their debut on Warner Bros., and a good mix between the freak show that was their early stuff, and the later Yoshimi-Zaireeka Laptop Lippage.

ok so super kudos goes to jamesg (yet again!), rocket and croz for Autolux - the album just keeps getting better - why aren't these guys huge?

today:

Splat - Bailter Space (off the Wammo album)

these NZ turned US skate-rockers came up with some weird stuff but this one is a great moody track and the film clip is even better (one of those filmed in reverse jobs).

The Autolux album is choice. Ive also got some demos from that album that are even better IMO. "Blanket" being the best. I jammed to the entire album on my Ipod the other day on the way to work. Of course, I love Greg Edwards....he's from Failure and everyone knows Im a gay for Failure....I really wish he and Ken would kiss and make up and put out another album under that name. How awesome would that be? Not as awesome as a certain band that begins with S and ends with R regrouping though.

I've been swingin' to rockets P&I comp for the last couple of days. I think I might be enjoying just about every single track on it. I'm sitting here now waiting for ~300 new computers to be delivered (in addition to the 450 we have already unloaded, god I love tech rollouts), I think I might make the guys I work with listen to the Boomer comp whilst we unload on the dock.
