Coat of Arms -and- Skateland - The Life and Times off of 'Suburban Hymns.'

More Life and Times! Boy this album sure is something nice. To me, a few of these songs have a bit of a Swervedriver feel. Some interesting melody choices in here for sure, nice bass/guitar interplay, and great production from Mr. Dan Dixon.

Speaking of Mr. Dan Dixon(now I sound like a talk show host :p), his band Dropsonic has been on my playlist alot lately too, especially the song 'Summer's Gone.' Total Bonham groove. Dropsonic.com if you so please. If you haven't heard them, check 'em out, perhaps you'll like it too.

I love the homepage photo The Life And Times have. Must be a good designer there somewhere. I love my red 'girlshead' tee shirt. Great to hear good things about their music now.

U Boat - Kasabian
The Deep Blue Sea - Violettes
'K Rocket, putting that J.Mascis disc on my wanted list. I didn't care for much Dino Jr stuff either, but guess I heard the wrong stuff.

though, I do think it's even better!

OK Rocket, just listened to the sound clips off Amazon. A few good tunes there, but it did remind me of Green Mind. I dunno, that was a good album, but Bug and especially You're Living All Over Me were great. Definitely became a different band after Barlow left.
Might still give it a try.

One last neat thing about The Life and Times... I just noticed The song 'Charlotte Street' quotes a few lines from 'Blowin Cool!'

Today however, it's been mostly 'El Diablo' - ZZ Top. Hell yes.

*gulp* n.. n.. nope.
I have to listen to it on my itunes at home to see wich one you're talking about?
I did have to cut a bunch that I didn't want to for it to fit on a CDR...
like Ash, Burden Brothers, The Martini Henry Rifles, and The Orange band...
and a hanful of incredible instrumentals
but, I might have missed the goodness of Jakob?
I'll check tonight.

Hey Zedhead, can you get a recording for us to check you out? Always a fan of of the Swervie fans music making.

Boomerangatang - MezcalTeeshirt (it has the short arms to expose the worm-shakin-to-shoegaze tattoo) has hooked me up, though if Im to like it the rest of the collection could be needed.

Rocket, Im plugging SXSW in straight after I finish with Trail Of Dead again.

Tool's videos are, well, PERFECT. Glad to hear the vids played okay on PC's, I don't have a PC to test it on. The MBV "Soon" video is also perfect. So frikin' dreamy and powerful and smeary. I just wish David Lynch had tackled some of their Loveless-era videos - a match made in... some fucked-up heaven somewhere.

Song of the day:

Every Track off Mezcal Head - after upgrading HD, now have space for better quality tracks - re-ripped all SWD at 256 mp3 VBR. Man, what a difference!

right on, croz.
glad you dig!

I very highly recommend their first lp "the comforts of madness".
also, if you can find the japanese-only compilation of early eps called "mrs. dolphin", you won't be disappointed.

for me, today:
"so into you" - atlanta rhythm section

one of those situations where your awoken in the middle of the night with a repeating song in your head for no obvious reason. and it just simply must be listened to.

This happens to me constantly, and I don't need to be sleeping. I think it's called "the hook". SIY is certainly a slick song - it could be worse... Elvin Bishop's "Fooled Around (And Fell In Love)" was the last serious bout I had with it - got it burned for me and it still didn't go away.

And what acronym should we give this? RPSD? Repetitive Pop Song Disorder? I suffer from an acute case, due to the constant exposure to lite FM inside the hardware store I worked at in high school. Try being 17 and walking home from work with Little River Band's "Reminiscing" torturing your young soul...

Um. That song was the first dance at my wedding. "We'll go dancing in the dark, walking through the park and reminiscing". So I am offended at your mocking said song. Or not.

well, at the risk of sounding like I'm backpeddling, don't be too offended, boomer. . .
that track is among the many that I pilliaged from napster back in the day for its nostalgic value.
that song (true to its title) does bring back specific childhood memories for me.
not sure I'd say I particularly love that song, but I'd not want to be completely without it, either.

Today.... "Darker" - Doves off Lost Souls. Starting to get anticipatory about this show! Let's hope they don't decide to cancel!

Just kidding about "Reminiscing" offense. We got married in '98, we had a jazz quartet play alot of Frank Sinatra, et. al. We had such a poor selection of "modern" music to have our first dance. I'm just glad it wasn't the "Electric Slide" or "Nothing Compares 2 U" or an Air Supply or Phil Collins song from an animated movie. Reminiscing can be a RELATIVELY amazing song.

Mocking LRB = hardly. I have a real soft spot for most 70s-80s lite FM. Certain songs will have me running for cover though.

Anecdote: while working in said hardware store and learning the intricacies of Ambrosia's "You're The Only Woman", ASCAP came in one day and said "we'll sue you for royalties if you don't unplug the radio and buy our Muzak system". They installed a unit that looked like it played 8-track cartridges (1/4" tape), except they were minty green plastic, about a foot square, weighed maybe 15 pounds, and were 12-hour loops.

So what did I do? Brought my cassette deck from home, hooked it up to the store's PA system when no one was looking, and ran the wires so I could hide the deck in the back of a file cabinet drawer. Every so often I'd sneak upstairs and change tapes.

So, somewhere I've got a bunch of hissy D90 cassettes with the most primo honest-to-God Muzak. Maybe I'll burn them for my first WAB disc

Ah, you're killing me, drmcd!
Actually, all those old Ambrosia "classics" were napster grabs for me, too.

That bridge part on "You're The Only Woman" is too irresistible not to belt out and attempt to harmonize with!

"when the pain of love surrounds you, and the world may be unkind, I'll put my loving arms around you, take you far from this place and time..."

(yikes! that's some hopelessly mushy crap, ain't it?! )

"How much I feel" and "Holding On To Yesterday" are a couple other real "classics"!

Alright, alright, my favourite song today is:
"Since I've Been Loving You" - Led Zeppelin 3
(turn that one up and listen to Bonham's kick drum pedal squeaking! I love that!)

love the Jam!

wish I new what you guys have been talking about for soooooo long - but, it has been funny! You've been a bad boy Boomer - bad!

Today...
Kaiser Cheifs - "Take My Temperature"
off that weird Tsunami Relief Fund CD that I wrote about some time last week...
any of you know about Kaiser Cheifs? - I'd like to hear thoughts!
This track rocks!! It's WAB worthy.
I know that I've gone on a bit in the past about how many bands are currently ripping off the old XTC punk sound that they had in their beginnings like on "Go 2" and some of their other earliest stuff... well, Kaiser Cheifs has it - I'm tellin ya (though it's been a while since I've listened to my vinyl Go 2) - it really has that same feel. I love that sound! bring it on.

I liked the first Veruca Salt album Croz, it was a bit patchy but had some good tracks, I think they lost their way after that.

I really liked some of 8 Arms To Hold You (was that its bloody name?) in particular Volcano Girls and Shutterbug, which was cheesy as but had a great catchy hook. It is pretty sanitised rock-chick rock, for sure.

iPod reset itself overnight, so had a complete random set on this AM's commute:

Two Girls Kissing - The Swirlies
Gimme Hell - JAMC
Family Man - Hall and Oates
Vapour Trail - Ride
Travelling Riverside Blues - Led Zeppelin
Sky Starts Falling - Doves
Movement 1, Symphony #5 - Sergei Prokofiev
7/4 (Shoreline) - Broken Social Scene
Say Goodbye - Year of the Rabbit

I heart my iPod.
That BSS song is a free download, BTW, here:

Wrong treats - Swervedriver. I awoke from a dream this morning, and this song was what I was singing. It was weird. I rolled over and it stayed with me. 1st thing I did when getting to work was put it on. Its just as good as it was at 4 am.

Brian Jonestown Massacre - Wisdom.

To each his own, but I wish they hadn't have stopped doing the type of stuff that was on Methodrone. None of their other records are as good I think.
