Adam Franklin - I saw a good review of Franklin (singer from Swervedriver, one of those big bands in the UK that don't necessarily translate to the US... Stone Roses, Primal Scream, etc.) in Jack Rabid's Big Takeover Magazine (essential reading for you uninitiated out there). The CD of Franklin was excellent as was this live set. He plays good straight rock music with a psyche-shoegaze vibe ever present. Tasty guitar interplay, good songs--nary a wrong note to be found in his set. And he plays a nice really beat up Fender. Check him/them out when they come to a town near you!

my own personal review:

the set was stunning. i've seen him play so many times i can't remember...and he never fails to deliver a jaw-dropping set. but the b-o-m show at the state theater managed to stand out as something quite special. you'd think they had been playing together for years - such was the interplay. but the bassist was from the church and an emergency fill in (i can relate to that). the drummer was recruited at the outset of the tour. despite the somewhat cobbled together nature - the songs were mesmerizing. adam was, as always, sonic gold. lee is the perfect compliment...but is also a creative talent in his own right. if you have a chance to see them live, you won't be disappointed. adam has found a real groove with these last two albums. it's like a sonic coctail - small bits of nick drake, burt bacharach and other tasty melodic influences...but 99% percent adam. and that's a pretty fucking good recipe.

that was now, this is then
