| Well, if I was forced to listen to rap, I'd definitely want SWD as the backing band. Not bad, great timing. The only thing I thought was out of place was the mouth-spit "manual" scratching, but hey, I'm not a rap afficianado (nor a spelling one, either). It's by far the best rap song I've ever heard, hands down. |

Thanks, everyone, for the kind words. Most people I'd played it for hadn't heard "Rave Down", so I wanted to know what some fellow fans thought. If I do another SWD mashup, you'll be the first to know!
Cheers, Charlie |

Good points. For me, the "punchline" is the way the hook from both songs line up. Then, the chorus of both songs work well together, as does the Jay Z verse over the double-time part near the end.
That's the essence, really, but this being my first one, I couldn't leave well enough alone. (Believe it or not, the very first version was even busier than this one.) The "turn the music up..." sample and the beatboxing (mentioned by Peter, above) might be overstating my case. In the latter case, I was baited by a SWD line--"...beatbox my brains to bits"--but I didn't have to bite.
The feedback has been very helpful. I'll post to this topic again when I have a final mix. And, from the sounds of it, I can't beg off doing new one so I'll post when I have that, too.
In the meantime, if anyone has weird or one-off stuff (especially "Raise" era) to share, on CD or in mp3 format, that would help a lot. (I'm thinking of acapellas, instrumentals, b-sides, bootlegs, etc.)
Thanks, Charlie |
