If I may make a suggestion for possible support act at Newi...Sounds Like Sunset would fit the bill. Presuming they're still around gigging that is. :)

How about 1st support Sounds Like Sunsets, main support Firekites with the Swervies playing two sets - IWBTLY in full followed by an hour of the rest and best.

We can dream.

btw tickets for Newcastle and Sydney secured.

Nice one sammynb! I was going to go in with 'how about bringing slowdive along with', but one has to have a degree of reality, no?Firekites would be pretty special with SLS though.
You coming up from Sydney? We'll have to catch up at the show mate.

Hey Snail, I didn't realise you are a Newie chap. Yes I'll be there, might swing past the old family home in Adamstown on the way into the city but yes definitely up for a catch up at the show.

SWERVEDRIVER return to NEW ZEALAND in JUNE 2016 in a doubleheader with FUR PATROL

Nineties UK shoegaze legends SWERVEDRIVER return to NZ with old friends FUR PATROL
FUR PATROL will open this doubleheader whilst celebrating their 20th anniversary.

SWERVEDRIVER inhabit a funny spot within the pantheon of classic shoegazer bands. They were always out of step with their 90s Creation-era peers, most of whom appeared content to disappear behind a veil of tastefully shimmering feedback and lyrical obtuseness. Swervedriver, on the other hand, were interested in ripping. Their guitars may have fed back through the requisite number of effects pedals, and classic Swervedriver t-shirts actually featured a connected bank of effects pedals rather than the bandmembers, but rather than shrink into the feedback, Swervedriver married their guitar haze with nods to poppy psychedelia, American film noir, and songs about fast cars

FUR PATROL remain Julia Deans vocals and guitar , Andrew Bain on bass, and Simon Braxton on drums
Its been 20 years since Julia got them together to work on some demo material. ANd within 4 years they had a classic NZ number one with Lydia.
ANDREW BAIN: "It's been a few years, I hope Simon can remember how to count to 4, although some of our songs do go up to 600 so this could get interesting fast."

Hey! Sounds Like Sunset are it! Great work. They got that Fannies style power pop thing going on. I see Kate's band is on the bill too. Said g'day to her at a Swervie Sydney metro show last time and she said she's a mad scrabble-head ..:)

Considering they have been playing literally everywhere in the wolrd, I would think they would be coming back to the US again soon.

Caught the Factory gig - magic!
Hadn't looked up previous posts and really dug the fresh mellow yet driving feel of the 2016 band.
Mick Quinn looked to be having a blast.
Impressed by the boys checking out the support bands, right from the first; and left with a smile on my face with Adam's "See you next time" departure.
Thanks Adam,Jimmy, Mikey, Mick & crew

Bike it, you'll like it

Newcastle was a ripper!

Doesn't get any better seeing one of your all time favorite bands play a great show at a local venue and get to meet them after the show.

Thanks Adam and Jim for graciously engaging in some (at times) overly-enthusiastic banter from long time excited fans. Really is great to see you playing a tight set of new and classic tunes. Flowed beautifully.

The guys took to the stage with an air of determination as the enthusiastic crowd roared a prolonged cheer. Might have been the raw sting of the Brexit news that day and an 'up-for-it' crowd (Newcastle crowds usually are), but there was real emotive energy in the performance. Adam acknowledge the appreciative crowd upon treading the boards saying the 'it (the welcome) was heartening after a tough day' (banging his chest) before launching head long into the opener.

I've seen them a number of times through the years and this was one of their best, in my own opinion.

Thought there was a 'pro-photographer' down the front with his tripod set up, but i now realise it was Whitewatersky, going off (between jiggling his camera setup). Looked like you were having a ball.

yeah man, i was having a blast.
were you up front?
how was that weirdly located table in front of the stage !?!?!?

cool in a way, but weird.
was a good place for everyone to put their beers, but a first time to see that at a gig...

far out ... i finally got to bed after 3am - my mate BRad drove.... to Sydney !
sipping my last beer all the way back. stooooooopid. but so much fun !

Yeah, thought that table placement was wierd and never saw anything like that before, but just went with it and laid down the schooeys accordingly. In a way, that table invited me and some mates up to watch the support acts from the very front with a convenient place to place the beers. That silver tray you see in the first pic was all that remained from my last shout.

Pretty sure i was next to you at the merch table after the show, as i thought 'there's that photographer dude who was going off'. Was that you buying a cd of I wasnt Born to Lose you? Read somewhere they sold out the 7inch single too!

Look forward to seeing your videe of the show. did you do any hand held cam action or just the tripod?

Went to bed that night with a big smile pinned from ringing ear to ringing ear.

nah wouldn't have been me.
i bought the 7" and a Kill the Superheroes T earlier in the night

yeah i reckon that table was pretty dang handy !
i put a couple of my empty tequila and squash on there !
that'll learn my mate to offer to drive ! i certainly took advantage of it....
burgers were good out front as well
bit different to the Cambridge i remember from my uni daze late 80s/early 90s!
but then again, not too different. such a cool band room
was such a bast of a weekend !
