Since I recently missed out on a few good shows this year because I find as I get older it seems to take more and more work to figure out what's playing and get tickets in time. I thought maybe a thread of what people are seeing would be great sort of like what people listen to... makes it easier to find stuff.

Ok so I'm in the new york area... i know we don't all live in the same area, but I think we're missing a piece here. we have what music we listen to, and music trades, but what about the live show stuff? i would like to even hear about shows that people see elsewhere that they like, cause bands usually make it around these parts and you know how sometimes bands sound great live but not too good recorded. some are in reverse... it's always nice to get a rec on a good live show.

short list of upcoming events I am interested in:
Link Wray - may
The kills - ooops sold out in ny, but still available in nj
stars - oops second miss sold out!
looking for any dino shows. i saw them like 10 years ago, can't remember where but I remember I was sitting down and thinking how can you expect me to sit at this show? does anyone remember that? in ny somewhere.
lcd soundsystem - for you fans but sold out
the fab faux - 3 shows at bowery ballroom??? not interested but it's interesting.
wreckless eric this weekend? hmmm
ravonettes do a good live show - april & may
sterototal - may

anyone else have a list?

strange coincidence! just as I finished my belly aching about missing shows a friend just called to ask me if I wanted to see paul westerberg - got tickets already... awright!!

the angel of live shows must have heard my complaints.

that's on april 26th.

Thanks for the heads up on The Kills.

4/4/05 in at Little Brother's in Columbus, OH (great venue).
I didn't even know they had a new record.

Had a chance to see them a couple years ago but I was sick.

Bonnie Prince Billy is on tour if you're into that.

I'm not sure if he still does - but, for a while Joseph Arthur had an entire Quicktime video of a show he played available to download on his web site. He claimed that the band somehow couldn't make it because of some kind of road problem - so, he played the show himself. Just Arthur and an acoustic - it was really incredible!

I've got a killer Link bootleg from a few years back.

I know there aren't a lot of metal fans in the audience here, but last week I ran sound for one of the most intense live bands I've ever seen in my life. They're called With Passion and are on Earache records. I've seen some pretty gnarly bands in my time, but I swear, I've never seen more energy given off by one band in my life. The guitar players were literally convulsing on the ground and absolutely nailing everything they were playing at breakneck speed. Extremely intense. I can't help but be glued to that type of thing regardless of what type of music it is.

Little Brothers is a great place. I saw some of the best shows I've ever seen there when it was Stache's, and I think in a different location.

kr, thanks, yup all sold out.. can't believe i missed that. doesn't look good either, no one i know has an extra ticket and the shows are so small the tickets that are around are outrageous money, and i can't pay the pirate's fee, and i don't want to either even if I could.

There is one guy who is selling a ticket who had posted, "well think about what it would take to pay you not to go to the show" The show is that important to him. Nothing! will keep him from going except a very large cash payment.

So many shows, too little time. Time is the real coin not money, although money is coin and also too finite, but ya know what I mean.
"Time is the fire in which we all burn," unless its a new eye-gouging pressed-particle-board uber lame Perry townhome for that goes up even faster and that are springing up everywhere in the old wharehouse area in painful waves of gentrification {quote; Malcolm McDowell in Star Trek Generations}

Southern Culture on the Skids is on the loose again and worthy, way more so then most who play that kind of stuff.

Looking forward to the Decemberist, The Mountain Goats, Junior Brown, Underoath, Mars Volta, Muse, Mastodon, and The Tony Danza Experience [shh].

James, I don't know much about them either. I heard one song I liked. They seem to be similar to that wave of bands coming out of NY these days like Radio 4, The Rapture, Stellastar, LCD Soundsystem, Hot Hot Heat, etc., etc. There seems to be quite the buzz around them lately.

I believe Bloc Party are from Glasgow. They sent their demo to Franz Ferdinand who put them on their tour to open for them. They have a few interesting sounds. Singer sounds like The Killers guy, but better.

M83 with Ulrich Schnauss
doors at 7 PM; 18+ show" Brooks, this would be a really cool gig. Ulrich makes really interesting electronica and M83 have a track called "Run Into Flowers" that i would pay to see in itself. Its going on my next WAB.

I caught bloc party last week. they fucking rocked.
if I'm not mistaken, it was their first show, ever, in the states.
it was funny because the band was surprised that the audience was able to sing along to their songs..."hey, how do you know our songs so well? the record doesn't even come out here 'til tomorrow!"

I'd recommend seeing them.

arrr, Brooksy, Im listening to Dead Cities as i type. I havent heard the new one. When i got this lp is was coz i had heard Run Into Flowers a hundred times prior to hearing anything else by them. Initially i thought it was less than cool comparitively, but it has changed and grown into one lp that i now love. Not for group listening - play it while youre alone.

Id be into a swap if you can be bothered? Email me bro.

BRMC are coming to the ATL on Sept 30 - what's the deal with them - I've heard that their forthcoming album is very different from their first two - Acoustic guitar and drumless songs? Piano pop? Did someone abduct these guys or is this review a joke?

http://www.billboard.com/bb/daily/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000967472

Also, the Brian Jonestown Massacre makes its way to the ATL on August 6. I can't think of a reason not to go!

And QOTSA/NIN/Death Above 1979 on Oct 26 (wish it was Autolux, but they'll do) - it's going to be an expensive show in an arena. And I don;t want to put up with all the NIN girlies screaming for "head like a hole". So i dunno.

This is really starting to get annoying. I just found out that Riddle of Steel was in town last month.

Next month I'm going to find out that Swervedriver played tommorow night in the ATL.

Rocket, at least in ATL, NIN are the headline act. I heard the entire new album - I only enjoyed "Do You Know Who You Are".

My son is into NIN, heavily. I never cared for them, and the new one, to my ears is unpleasant listening. They are not even a blip on my radar screen. The only thing I ever thought was impressive about them (him..it's all Trent Aznavour, isn't it...?) is the LOGO. Neat design.

Lol Brooksy.

I saw Conway Savage last night. Awesomely moving stuff. Only 50 or so ppl in a tiny venue which was really intimate - he chatted to us and joked around. He could be Nick Caves brother, so alike are they.

Damned that i missed 78 Saab last week. Fuck it!

Strudle and I were lucky enough to score both BJM tickets for Cambridge, MA and BRMC / Mark Gardner for Boston. I'm sure we will both post our reviews after each show. I think Strudle said MG might be coming out with a solo record? Strudle, can you confirm that?

No tamborine guy! Or at least not "the" tamborine guy from the movie, and it looks like it's Daniel Allaire on drums.

Actually, Strudle and I only know each other through the board. Just thought BJM would be a good excuse to hang out with a fellow Swervie! Hey, Strudle, you're not an axe murderer, are ya? Ha, ha! Can't wait, should be a legendary show! Cheap beer good music, who smells a hangover!

The hold steady sound a bit like bob mould solo stuff to me. any one have any comments? i might go see them play at the bowery ballroom if it works out.

Just got the last Interpol CD from the library. I thought they would be a one CD kind of thing, but it was alright. Better than I had expected, though I don't like it as much as the first.

BJM was awsome Friday night. I think Brooks would agree with me Rocket that it would definitely be worth your while to head down to the show and try to get a ticket. We got the complete package that night...Anton showed his whacked side, he was personable and funny, even DJ'd before the show. But the band was really on that night and totally rocked. Matt Hollywood and Joel Gion are larger persoanlities than the current lineup, but these guys just play, and were awsom, everybody just kind of assumes their roles, tunes up or down when asked by Anton, and just jams. One thing I've never seen before was after 'Servo' (I think, Brooks help me out) Anton went over to Rick and they spent a few minutes reworking the end of the song they just played......?????? I mean thats just BJM. They had two extended jam sessions, one during "When Jokers Attack", and the other I can't remember, but it was the last song and the house lights had come on. They could of easily played 3 or 4 more songs if they cut down these jams, but I think Antons creativity and the bands performace would of been lost. No pedals, no boards, just Vox guitars and vintage Fender Twin Reverb amps. For $10.00.....check them out man, fans win on this gig!

sounds awesome Strudlehead - Man I hope I hear that they are coming some place close to me!

Yeah Croz - I saw Life and Times! It was a great show - and the opening band The String and Return was great also. Infact, I was talking to that drummer of S&R after the L&T gig when I went up to buy a CD (it was a CD launch party) and the drummer for the String and Return was the drummer that played with Life and Times on the "High Score" track that you put on your first WAB! I told the guy that story and he agreed that it was a crazy small world. I mean... a guy from Australia is turning me on to a Kansas City band? - though I had seen his first band several times - Shiner - I just never new that Shiner morphed in to Life and Times... it's crazy what can happen when your sharing music! Plus, I know the drummers wife who was there helping them sell stuff after the show... she also works as an artist where I do but in a different department.
btw - both bands are also huge Swervedriver fans - Life and Times even mentioned them as being an influence in the article written in the STAR the day before...
(I don't really hear any Swervedriver in 'em though)
