Oddly enough, I just came back from seeing Dinosaur Jr. play for free at a Urban Outfitters clothing store in Harvad Square! I guess they were helping promote a corporate free radio station.

For being in a clothing store, it was a great show, played a lot of stuff from the new album, even played "Feel The Pain," which I was surprised to hear - being post Barlow and all. They played for just under an hour, which is about half of the time we had to wait in line, but again, it was free, so who cares! Good time, I hope they come back in the fall!

Set list for anyone interrested:

ALMOST READY
BUDGE
BACK TO YOUR HEART
BEEN THERE ALL THE TIME
OUT THERE
THIS IS ALL I CAME TO DO
FEEL THE PAIN
FREAKSCENE
KRACKED
SLUDGEFEAST

PICK ME UP

Consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.

I went to see The B-52's on Sunday, I've never seen them before (they haven't played here in 15 years) and they're one of my favourite bands. I was a bit sceptical as they're all pushing 60 but I have to say it was the most fun I've had at a concert in years. They were absolutely spot on and the only problem was that they didn't play for longer.

Had the absolute pleasure to see Crowded House on Sunday. Just a great evening all around, the show was at the Bank Of America Pavillion which is a huge tent located on the Boston waterfront. Band sounded fantastic, really glad to see Neill Finn and Nick Seymour continue on.

Saw Pelican and Clouds last night @ the Troubadour. Pelican pounded last night!!! it was a great show. Clouds I'm a little iffy on the black sabbathy/fu manchu-ishness... Great show nonetheless.

Oh btw, Maserati & el ten eleven are playing together here in LA on 9/11. THAT'S going to be a hot show!!!!

I hope I get to mon the terra tomorrow night. After months of waiting, wifey throws a curveball work-related conflict. I just hope the show doesn't start until 10:30 - then I'll be gold. Bringing the camcorder along, so hopefully I'll have some video soon for those who got dissed by the tour planners.

Oh man Maserati put on a hell of a show. Best drummer hands down.

Terra was great! Played very tight. Too bad hardly anyone saw 'em. I did videotape the show, but initial listens give a thumbs down to the sound. I need to figure out a way to cut out the overpeaked sounds on these things.

Anyway, if they are coming to your town, you HAVE to go see 'em. Jez wasn't there, but he is trying to get across the pond according to the lads. Great bunch of guys.

Hey Boomer, on your camcorder do you have a mic input? Let me know... Cos if you do, you might be able to get an external condensor mic to pic up the sound better...

Just saw Pelican & Clouds this past Friday. Clouds is Adam McGrath's band from Cave in--they were ok, more like fu manchu/black sabbathy. Pelican slayed that night, it was awesome, great set!!!

Yeah, it's a Canon Elura model - it has both a mic input and it has a top attachment for a psuedo-boom mic, i think. I have tried to take sound in from a board via the mic in the past, but all i got was crazy feedback, no signs of music. I think i need to go do some testing. Perhaps some cotton balls taped onto the mic grills? SOmething cheap. This is expensive: http://tinyurl.com/2yrvx9

My worry is that a mic like this will still be recodring too loud - I don't have any way of turning down the recording sound.

Yeah, not all soundmen/woman know how to eq or set up the board correctly to hear a pristine SBD recording. Here's the mic that I have:

http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/item/AT-PRO24

Cheaper than the one you mention by half the price. if you do buy this, test it and make sure the levels are fine...

Oh you can't adjust the recording level? that stinks... hmmm

Thanks for the info, darshun. BTW, the sound isn't half bad on the recording after all (definitely not perfect, but listenable). I'ma talk to Jez (who wasn't at the show, BTW) and see if he's cool with me posting some of the video on youtube.

So I just found out that The Helio Sequence is opening for Minus the Bear this fall, and they're playing in Albuquerque on Halloween, and I can't go because one of my band members is getting married, further enforcing my theory that marriage is not only pointless, but hinders a fulfilling life.

Went to see Chris Cornell last night, if you have even a passing interest in Soundgarden...

GO AND SEE HIM RIGHT NOW HE'S AMAZING!!!!

I was highly sceptical before the gig. I don't like Audioslave and I haven't heard his new album (which is a bit patchy by all accounts) but he played for well over two hours and pulled out some absolute classics, even some Temple of the Dog!! His band are amazing, the drummer is one of the best I've ever seen and had absolutely no problem filling Matt Cameron's boots. I saw Soundgarden about 10 years ago and Chris' voice is a lot better now than it was then (It seemed to be in steady decline following Superunknown, I remember seeing footage of Audioslave and cringing because I thought he'd really lost it). He even played 'Seasons' off the singles soundtrack which was my personal highlight. Everyone here who likes Soundgarden MUST go, you'll get your moneys worth.

Don't know how many (if any) British Sea Power fans there are out there, but they are doing a short US tour, a few UK dates as well. They are absolutely fantastic live, I highly recomend getting out to see them if they roll through your town.

15 Oct 2007 - Maxwells, Hoboken, NJ.
16 Oct 2007 - Johnny Brenda's, Philadelphia, PA.
18 Oct 2007 - Bowery Ballroom, New York, NY.
19 Oct 2007 - Black Cat, Washington, DC.
21 Oct 2007 - Middle East Downstairs, Cambridge, MA.

A link for UK dates, if anyone is interested

Check out the "Cactus Club" website for directions and info. Looks like there are links to all the bands listed on their calender.

I've been wondering about that myself. We need some boots of his new music. Perhaps Adam might have something in the works.

Dude, hook it up! Especially if you ever get the audio. He's here on Sunday and I can't wait. I'd love to pull audio from the board, but I've been to this place and is so insanely small, that more than likely, they'll only need to run vocals through the PA. The mixer is mounted on the wall beside the band for godsake. Oh well...

Hey dudes.
I saw the Adam Franklin show this past Monday. Totally awesome! My friends and I got there early and listened to the sound checks and stuff and had plenty of time to do some chattin' with the man...
The show itself was incredible. The band completely rocked it - and Adam makes his guitar playing look so easy and natural. He was nailing everything - and the vocals were perfect. I wish more people had been there to experience the magic of such incredible music...
I heard somebody recorded it - but, I have yet to get in contact with them...
I didn't even think about getting video - but, 2 of my friends took some really killer photos - so, I'll pass on a link or something once they get organized...
The night was just an awesome experience for me.

oh yeah - plus I got to finally meet Madina from the forum. She was a blast to hang with!

Holy shit dudes - look what I just got!

Swervedriver Reunion in '08 Announced!!!
Now that the press release has been officially issued, we at HSS HQ finally have the "ok" to let our friends know that a Swervedriver Reunion has been announced for '08. Details on dates are still coming together but some great news all the same!! Be sure to check out Adam and band who are currently on tour right now in support of his new record "Bolts of Melody". Tour dates are listed at www.hispeedsoul.com. Here's the official press release with the info on the Swervedriver reunion:

"After almost a 10-year long absence, the revered UK band SWERVEDRIVER plans to reform for an early 2008 worldwide tour. Swervedriver is Adam Franklin on guitar and vocals, Jimmy Hartridge on guitar, Steve George on bass, and Jez on drums. Swervedriver formed in Oxford, England in 1989 and released a series of EP's followed by their debut full-length, Raise, in 1991 on Creation Records in the UK and A&M Records in the U.S. Mezcal Head followed in 1993, then in 1995 Ejector Seat Reservation came out on Creation in the UK, but was only available as an import in the US. Their last release, 99th Dream, was released by Zero Hour in 1998. Tour dates for Swervedriver will be announced shortly. Adam Franklin is in the midst of a U.S. solo tour in support of Bolts of Melody, which was released this past June on Hi-Speed Soul."

Let the excitement begin! xoxo, Hi-Speed Soul

I'm as excited as anyone for the forthcoming reunion, but I must admit, I'll kinda miss the band he has now. Really, really fantastic, and they even did Director's Cut.

Yes, I saw. Was that your flash or was your venue much brighter than mine? I never remember to take a still camera to these things.

I'm back from the long weekend. I couldn't be more happier with Adam's show. His playing was spot-on and the band sounded tight. Seeing him live put things in perspective.

We walked into "The Cactus Club" early and there Adam was, having a beer at the bar. I had a small chat with him and he signed Croz's "Raise" sleeve and a couple that I had. Very friedly and he talked about meeting Eugene, rocket and JamesG.

The show was incredible. He clearly loves what he's doing and I gained a new found respect for him. I guess it dawned on my dim mind that Adam is an artist that doesn't bend into a mold to please everyone. Take him or leave him. When I recalled his catalog through the years it shows that he has always done what he wanted to do. Never a sellout. That comes with a price but the fans that he has are true to him and we can all reap the rewards from his new music, his tour, and now a Swervedriver reunion.

For those who haven't seen him on his current tour I, Jeronimo ,urge you to make the effort. Show your support and meet a man who has survived the storm.

Adam has for sale on tour the following items:

Bolts of Meolody album - Australian version w/ extra track 10$
B.O.M. t-shirts black or red 15$
Syd's eyes/Silver Freight Train 7-inch- gold/yellow vinyl 7$
Toshak Highway- Magnetic Morning
Toshak Highway- 1st album in vinyl or CD digipack 10$
Toshak Highway- "Everyday Rock 'n Roll is Saving My Life" Part 2 10$

More later.

Toshack Highway- "Everyday Rock n' Roll is Saving my Life Part 2" 10$

We ride the warp of space into the womb of night.

And from what I hear those vinyl copies of the Toshack Highway album are among the last... could be wrong though. :P
