Rocket, I'll definitely let you know (or guys know). Original lineup too, Nate is back in the fold for this tour. PLUS they remastered diary & lp2, which you can order the CD & vinyl @ subpop's site. 2 bonus trax each, diary'll have the 7" for "8" and "9," while Lp2 will have "Spade and Parade" and "bucket of chicken." 9/15 is the release date, which is next week!!!

Hey Mike, yup, I use Etymotic Earplugs... They're better than those "hearos" (the orange earplugs) that one can buy at the local drug store. I remember awhile back these Etymotics would sell for $30 or more for a pair of good earplugs. A buddy told me a few months ago that they're on sale for about $12/pair!!! So I've got a little compartment on my keychain for my etymotics!!! So I have to have my keys w/me at all times anyways, so why not Etymotic earplugs!!!

This was a nice (ear)plug for Etymotics!!!

Loper, that is just too cool. I've seen them at least 6 times in the past, but always with the "Doug Guillard band". You're a lucky man, enjoy it, and let us know about it. Only tix I have going for the summer is The National in early September.

BOTH lineups were great for different reasons. The last time I saw the "classic" lineup, it was when hardly anyone cared about them. I seriously can't wait. In case you didn't know, I'm a Bob fanatic.

Wow just wow...

GUIDED BY VOICES “CLASSIC LINEUP” ANNOUNCE FULL REUNION TOUR THIS FALL

Last month, Robert Pollard sent the indie universe into a state of frothing anticipation when he announced that Guided By Voices, the heroic lo-fi power-pop band he led throughout the 90s, would reunite (in its mid-90s “classic lineup” form) to play Matador’s 21st anniversary festival in Las Vegas.

But that’s not all. As Pollard announced on his website today, that same GBV lineup will head out on a full U.S. tour this fall. Back in the day, the GBV drunken-marathon live show was truly a marvel to behold, so yes, we’re excited.

The band will actually play one show before the Vegas fest; the first scheduled GBV reunion show will now happen September 30 in Austin. The band will play some dates with fellow Ohioans Times New Viking, and a few more with Blitzen Trapper. They’ll also hit “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” on November 4, so there’s at least a remote chance that we’ll see ?uestlove play drums on “Game of Pricks”. Dates below.

Guided By Voices:

09-30 Austin, TX – East Side Drive *
10-03 Las Vegas, NV – Matador 21
10-04 Los Angeles, CA – Wiltern *
10-05 San Francisco, CA – Warfield *
10-07 Portland, OR – Crystal Ballroom *
10-09 Seattle, WA – Showbox SoDo *
10-12 Minneapolis, MN – First Avenue *
10-13 Chicago, IL – The Vic *
10-15 Newport, KY – Southgate House
10-16 Columbus, OH – Outlands Live
10-21 Washington, DC – 9:30 Club
10-22 Carrboro, NC – Cat’s Cradle
10-23 Atlanta, GA – Buckhead Theater
11-05 Boston, MA – Paradise ^
11-06 Philadelphia, PA – Trocadero ^
11-07 New York, NY – Terminal 5 ^

Lemonheads at the Metro Sydney (1st Dec 2010)was great to see Smudge (supported) team up with Evan at the end of encoure for 'Outdoor Type'. Evan's bass player and drummer (not seen these guys) are a tight machine - sometimes overpowering Mr jingle jangle's subtle sounds. A night of modern day indie classics! Kept getting distracted picturing who would be on that very same stage in a couple months time!! Just the thought of thundering toms at the intro to Sci-flyer through the Metro's speakers was drowning out the actual big round sound of the Lemonheads that night.

It's been a while...
There was once a band a lot of Swervies fans were into. After a first album ten years ago, this band reunited (by fate?) some time ago with a follow-up record and was touring as a first act for (...and You Will Know Us by the) Trail of Dead. This band is called Rival Schools. I just saw them last night in Brussels and, man, it was really disappointing. I haven't been that disappointed in quite a while. The lead singer was egotic, when they are nowhere in the fame ladder, and the music is much more namby-pamby than I remembered.

Anyway, then came Trail of Dead, and it was good. Maybe not as good as I expected but when they started, I knew it would erase the disappointment. They have the routine of great bands, and this ultimate rock'n'roll touch/attitude of bands that are above the rest, but still they seemed humble. Maybe a bit short (75 mins), to say something negative. In the end, it was quite a good line-up, and definitely a good ol' rock'n'roll moment.

But it wasn't as mind blowing as were Black Rebel Motorcycle Club last year (in Brussels, again). This was so loud and noisy I was just amazed. And for 2 hours and a half! I think I'll remember their performance for a long time.

In between, there was the average performance of Dinosaur Jr., yet again in Brussels. It was good to have the chance to see them, after all these years (and them breaking up in the first place), but I can't say it was such a good concert. Still, I would recommend it but don't get too expectant. Nice first set of Built to Spill, by the way.

But all in all, I think the very best live rock performance of these last 12 months was Mogwai (in Luxembourg). A world of their own. I was absolutely carried away to some beautiful noise landscapes. An absolute must hear. No need for lyrics, just noise (yet melodic) music that says it all, and brings you to an elsewhere you had never thought of. Thrilling. And kind of shoegazing (well, to the scenic behaviour extent). Because they were actually watching their feet while throwing their saturated sound...
I might try to see them again this summer at the Dour Festival (where Swervedriver once played, like in 1993) if I can, because it was pure bliss.

Well, I guess I saw a few of my favourite bands, but that also leaves me with Sonic Youth and los Swervies reunited at the top of it. Never saw any of these (while being a huge fan of both for 15 years, and thus since I was 15) and this is such a gap in my music history I need to fullfil it as soon as they visit the belgian neighbourhood. Then I'll definitely be ok with the gigs I went to.

So I've got a little compartment on my keychain for my etymotics!!! So I have to have my keys w/me at all times anyways, so why not Etymotic earplugs!!!

This was a nice (ear)plug for Etymotics!!!

Bands are playing so loud these last few years (or my nearly 30 years old ears are more sensitive than they used to be as a teenager) that earplugs are really nice to rely on. And even so, it may take a few days to recover. I couldn't hear a lot for a little while after I saw Mogwai. I don't know if this is the same in the US venues but in Europe they tend more and more to have (and show) some decibel meters so that they can't let the volume go above a particular threshold.
And (particularly interesting in here) I've heard they turned the volume so high with My Bloody Valentine last year at a belgian festival it was unbearable, like never before. Well, I guess we like to turn it up when it comes to noise/shoegazing music but it doesn't mean we want to go deaf, right?

The bottom line is I'm not going anywhere near a concert without my Alpine Pro earplugs (around 20€) with progressive filters (on the whole spectre).

Yeah, Mogwai is seriously loud. Like beyond the "sweet-spot" when I saw them last. They are coming to town again and at a decent venue, so I'm tempted to go again, but with protection this time. Now just have to find a deal on a ticket, 60$ plus 12 or so in fees and 8$ beers for an indie band?? What the hell man? I guess this is what happens when people don't pay for albums anymore. I remember paying 4$ to see SWD once.

Setlist for Adam's gig last night at the Lexington:

Asha
Spent Bullets
Morning Rain
I Used To Live For Music
Coda Code
Champs
Boom!
Ramonesland

They started late so it was a fairly short set. Bolts were with the excellent addition of a keyboard player who was playing some (at times) frenzied keys and bonkers samples. Unfortunately I couldn't stick around to watch the other bands.

Thanks for sharing the set list. How did Asha sound? Was that Indian sound effect included in the live version?

I missed the start of Asha as I was downstairs getting a pint (they were only selling bottles upstairs). What I heard of it sounded good, I can't remember if they used the Asha Bhosle sample, sorry.

Asha was something of a sound check so it wasn't the best sound tbh.

The rest of the gig was good, the standout track for me being Ramonesland, but then I love it anyway

Re the other bands: Air Formation are a really great shoegazer band - i think they just reformed just for this one show which is a shame though i did my best to convince them to keep playing!

i wasn't impressed with Exit Calm - four wannabees who were hoping to make it by sounding like Coldplay, The Verve and Psuede all at once (he said harshly )

Ramonesland is so good live. It would be a great to hear the instrumental F version live someday....
