Comment: sorry about hogging the dancefloor but i’m trying ot avoid a horrid essay. AnnaM -never lose that feeling ? definitely makes the top 10 faves. the 1992 NLTF 11.50 length version is way cool. well i’ve asked around about what it means …and the general consensus is ‘it must be about some girl’ (highly structured answers are elusive as i think everyone’s brain is being fried by exams right now). i think it might be about some good spliffs, it might be about driving fast across a desert at sunset, it might be about dreaming of penguins. i’m also yet to figure it out but i guess that’s why it always sounds so good

Comment: Just a quick flick over the scribble, and it seems you guys are just not getting the hang of how to handle female groupies (transforamtions into lesbians mid tour). You should NOT be trying to get female groupies (defined as aliens who have little else to do other than make your life a misery) – htese are not people you want to hang out with. what you need to do is a) look at your website eric, there are lots of non groupie real grls there who think you are ‘dreamy’ ; b) if you get a groupie/lesbian, shoot them – before they shoot you.

Comment: Tuomas, that’s a shame, truly good music. I was hoping to hear about a US T-star tour πŸ™‚ Kik, how’s the sunshine man? (or are you a female? I can’t remember) Lately David Bowie, Husker Du, and a slew of Swervie besides that I recently acquired having been sounding really nice. Have you any of you heard that different version of “Deep Seat” called “Deep Twang”. (You may have all discussed this with one another already). Anyway, it’s fucking great. It’s instrumental, slower, deeper, and thicker..beautiful.

Unfortunately between school, work, my band, my girlfriend, etc, there’s no way I could make it to see Toshack. However, I would say fuck it to all those things if it were Swervedriver playing. Comment: i just saw toshack highway tonight in royal oal, mi. it was a tiny little record store, but that made it all the more interesting. it sounded great too, and i had a perfect view because there were only a small group of people there. we talked to adam after the show and he didnt really know what was up with swervedriver. just that he knew that they havent worked on anything in a while. he even said that he was considering making the toshack highway stuff the new swervedriver sound, but he said that it would have been too much of a change, and of course decided to keep it seperate. i heard some of the new toshack songs and they sounded really good, and i got a t-shirt that says “Everyday, rock ‘n’ roll is saving my life,” for 10 bucks. thanks for your time with us adam.

Comment: Adam – Hi ! what about making a lazy trek along to sunny Perth in ozzie – get away from those dank and windy northern hemisphere climates & get some SUN! Actually , any spot in this part of the world would do … All this chatter about new stuff makes me feel like it’s Christmas – box sets, videos, ebooks – can life get any better? As for movies, I gotta say neoJedi, i can’t agree more. ‘live your life like a movie’ sorta sounds like an urge overkill lyric doesn’t it?

Comment: Well Adam it’s nice to know that UK dates are in the pipeline, but you really need to play in Stafford or Stoke because i’ll find it pretty difficult to get to the gigs otherwise. Actually that’s bullshit because even if you played at the most northern point of Scotland i’d sell my soul to get there. Oh yeah, you should play in Peterborough as well (actually don’t it’s shit). Fuck it, Manchester or London will have to do, Or even Birmingham????

Comment: Blew it!I went to a mad drum and bass night, bought drinks ‘tokens’ from Mark from Octopus (surreal),drank so I’m sure I caused permanent flood damage, passed out, then staggered from my pit at some ungodly hour to check out Adams Boston Radio TT’s thing, tuned in – then realised I’d missed it by an hour and five minutes.DOH!Oh well… The book should be available just before Christmas – but with my experience of record companies,I’m guaranteeing nothing! The live record needs mixing well to do it justice – and that means all of us sticking our few bucks worth in.I’ll keep y’all posted as and when. . . That Dingwalls gig was ridiculous.I remember getting heckled by some of my mates outside because I couldn’t (they said wouldn’t!) get them in.Fact was our manager had already bribed security and the fire officers to get a few hundred more in!!!You’re right – top gig that.Up there with The Metros of Chicago and Sydney for me.Art – you wanna make a space somewhere here for a couple of chapters of my book.Lemmy know… Later, jez….xxx

I can’t take this all in- first the Wonderstuff get back together, and now loads of activity from THE finest band that the UK has EVER produced- its like 1991 all over again…hey, does anyone know if Ned’s Atomic Dustbin are planning anything? Comment: Hey Jez, i think that you should take the dingwalls show in ’98 into serious consideration. Fuck it, There were so many great tunes that night that you should release the whole gig as a live album!! That fucking huge video screen with all those trippy images of space, people lined up around the block because they couldn’t get a ticket, and i was off my face – in all, a cracking night.

Comment: VERY TRUE STORY…A friend of mine is taking the bus to work one sunny afternoon. Over his phones he’s listening to a tape I made him. He gets to his stop, and steps off the bus just in time to watch a women commit suicide. Across from where the bus stop is there is a hotel. The women threw herself from a fourth story window and landed head first into a parked car below. She died instantly to the horror of everyone at the bus stop. What was the song that was playing over my friend’s phones as this happened? LAST DAY ON EARTH! Cheers to Jez and the Swervies! Bring on the book!

Comment: Art – speak to Adam about “KARAOKE”.I don’t know what he thinks of the roughs I sent him.I checked digital m/track recordings we did of about 20 of our shows (between ’95 and ’98) and have short-listed versions of 15 different songs.I want to mix them all properly, then see which are the best 11 or so.Reckon Duress from Milan in ’95 is pretty much a cert, however.I checked 11 different versions of it and they’re all different – this one ROCKS!!!Good stuff from Melbourne,Boston,Hamburg,Offenbach and Stockholm too…I’m hoping Adam will be able to give me a hand between US and Europe on the “Poshmac and Pieway” tour, then I can mix it and have it done before Christmas..blah…blah…blah… One other thing, did I mention I’ve written a book about being on tour with SWD?It’s called “RIDER” and we’re just sorting out a publisher at the moment. If anyone’s interested I guess I could stick a couple of chapters on a site somewhere for you to check out.Let me know.I’m near the computer a lot at the moment,so I’ll drop in from time to time.Love to all, jez….xxx

Comment: my last message got lost somewhere so if it appears twice forgive the server that did it! Yes i verily believe there is a Thomas Pynchon Lot 49 style W.A.S.T.E. postal system afoot on the swervedriver.com site ! Billie i live wembley area so doubling up on postage is no problem there. local music forecast for perth this weekend is pretty slim – yo la tengo is about all i intend to do. anyone got any suggestions?

Comment: A thomas pynchon style W.A.S.T.E. postal system is afoot !!!! I’m north of the river (wembley) Billie, so that makes it easier to deal with getting the goods. I think swervie.com has definitely dropped the ball and the bat too. On the music scene in perth, there’s not much going down this weekend, other than yo la tengo. anyone got any other music suggestions?

Comment: Yeah Franklins rule (good title for a tv-series: The Franklins)… My band played this kinda late 60’s-70’s oriented stuff, but we just lost the thing with it at some point and decided that only way to do it is to make a huge comeback at year 2010 or something… we still have the site up though @ www.geocities.com/tstarnet. I do have new band on my hands right now… groopies not included (thanks for asking) πŸ™‚

Comment: Tuomas, that’s funny that you mentioned something about Grandpa Franklin. Have you seen the “Franklin Family” link on the Toshack Highway websight? It’s hilarious. What is your band like? I can appreciate your groupie story. I’ve been on the road with a band before as well. Kikster, Mars Accelerator is good shit. It’s been awhile since I’ve listened to them. Art, thanks for putting up the shirt order link. They look great, I just placed an order for one.

Comment: Hehe, you’re right about “Shoulder Voices” Tuomas. For every good song on that album, there is an adversely horrible one. Especially the one that’s all talking about “666 blame it on the music”…What the fuck? I don’t think that band ever really found themselves. An Axle wannabe at a Cure show eh? That’s pretty funny.

Comment: Kikster, Debbie, MBV’s bassist, was in this band called Snowpony. I’m not sure if they are still together though. They sounded kind of cool, but they were no MBV. Jimi Shields, Kevin’s little bro, played with a band called Rollerskate Skinny (such a great name, I think they nicked that from “Catcher in the Rye”). The album “Shoulder Voices” that RS put out had some good tunes on it.

Comment: kikster… MBV-saga has ended, according to numerous sources… They (or more precise, Kevin Shields) finished/re-mastered/finished the new album for like 19 times and the finallized product never came out… So…well, let’s put it this way that Kevin is playing with Primal Scream now…

Comment: “Snowmobile” is NOT, I repeat NOT a Swervie song, but a song written by a guy called Kevin (not Kevin Shields I suppose). The “band” is called Snowmobile and the song as I recall is(the first time I spotted it) called “Untitled #2”. Don’t know how Swervedriver was referred as the title but I suppose that the song is named after our beloved Swervedriver, who knows…

Comment: yeah, i agree it sounds way off swd. mebbe some of tha fuzz has a similar kinda effect, but tha vox sound like a US guy. the whole thing reminds me like somethin Merc Rev mighta done, but i’m not upto speed on their later stuff. what made me start to wonder is that i found this track among a swag of hard to get swd tunes like andalucia & she weaves a tender trap demo. kinda lent some cred to the swd status of snowmobile, but i think i woulda heard bout it if it was…
