Date: Thu May 31 15:38:46 2001 Name: Jerry City/State/Country: email@example.com Comment: Sorry, email address included above. The Peel Session I’ve got has 4 songs (recorded 1990): Out, Over (an early song not on any album or b-side, never heard anywhere else but here, it ROCKS), Volcano Trash and Zedhead (particularly HEAVY version). High quality recording from the best source. Also have a bunch of live stuff from FM broadcasts. No audience recorded junk. BTW, I will not sell any of this, TRADES only. Doesn’t have to be Swervies, I like other bands as well. Videos would be awesome though, since I’ve never even seen any of them! VHS! …it is great to hear them live …just a taste of what’s to come from Jez soon I hope. Swervedriver still blows away every other band out there after 10 years.

City/State/Country: jersey… Comment: erik, you are right about adam performing “green eyes.” at the spin.com performance (which i have mention on numerous occations) i saw him play it. perhaps he will include it in the upcoming acoustic sets… by the way, i have been really getting on my friend’s case about getting on the ball and getting the performances and interviews up there. perhaps it will work, but the entire spin.com team consists of 3 people, so they are very overworked and things do tend to slip throught the cracks. if not, i might be able to get a cdr copy of it… we’ll see…

Date: Thu May 31 12:02:25 2001 Name: Erik City/State/Country: RVA Comment: Last night I had the pleasure of seeing Grant Hart, formerly of Husker Du, play an acoustic set, right here in Richmond. It was amazing. Grant’s song writing has had an incredible impact on music in the past 20 years. Even Swervedriver has a fair amount of Husker Du in their sound every now and then. Grant played all the classics such as “Pink Turns to Blue”, “Never Talking to You Again”, “Books About UFO’s”, and an absolutely beautiful version of “Green Eyes” (which I hear Adam Franklin has performed before) As starstruck as I was to see him perform, I must say it was a bittersweet evening. A local Richmond emo band called Engine Down was the opener for Grant’s set. For the type of music they play, I think Engine Down is a pretty decent band. They have relatively large fanbase so a lot of people came out to see them. By the time Grant took the stage, there were maybe 10 people left in the club, myself included. Not a single emo kid, nor Engine Down themselves, stuck around for Grant’s set. This infuriated me to no end because, if not for the days Husker Du’s inventive songwriting and constant on the road starvation for the sake of playing the music they loved, and spreading their sound to whoever cared to listen, there would be NO underground music explosion, NO chance for alternative music to break through to the main stream, NO chance for music fans to open up to new ideas, NO Engine Down and NO emo kids. I doubt any of those people at the show even knew who the fuck Grant Hart was. As much as this angered me, I found myself feeling even more respect for Grant than I initially had. He undoubtedly knows that there is little respect for his accomplishments, but he’s on the road regardless, still playing those beautiful songs, speading his sound to whoever cares to listen. He obviously has a drive to push through any of the bullshit. And even though no respect is given to him, he retains his own self respect. I hope he “Keeps Hangin’ On”. I guess I’m writing about this here on the guest book because Swervedriver has had problems very similar to Grant’s. Of course all of us obviously love and respect this band, but it’s an understatement to say that overall, people do not give them what they deserve. But Swervedriver seems to have that same drive that Grant Hart has, and I just want them, and all others like them, to know that there are people out there who cherish and understand what it is you do, and more importantly, always do it for yourselves. The music will always shine through and touch us. Thank you so much for everything you have given. Just “Keep Hangin’ On” and “Never Lose that Feeling”. Take care all… -E

Have fun destroyin’ the noggin’ in Syd. Don’t forget to include a Swerve soundtrack. Their music always lends itself wonderfully to debauchery. Definitely false, not on this side of the hemisphere… Been visiting spin.com lately (trying to find that interview with Mr. Franklin, Im’afraid it’s not out yet), there’s a nice piece on Alan McGee’s new project, “POPTONES”. Mr. McGee must be very smart (after all,he signed Swervedriver…). He seems to be producing a documentary on (late 80’s)Boston’s indie scene, featuring Evan Dando and J. Mascis. These are good news indeed. I used to listen to Lemonheads everyday before I got my first copy of “Raise”. I still dig it tho not as before. “Lovey” is still a VERY good album. Anyway, it’s nice to know that Mr. McGee’s back in action, this may be the chance for may good bands out there waiting for a proper label to bring them together, like Creation did last decade.

But I think he sings it (Go Away) as Kurt Cobain did in Scentless Apprentice on In Utero And Kurt died at the same moment Adam probably wrote his songs for the album. (LCtF consists of Craig of elemae and Justin of the Judas Factor along withhis bother, Jordan Fullam) Both acts will be intimately showcasing material on acoustic guitars, with lots of guts. It’ll be quite interesting to see Adam showcasing plenty of new material, (toshack highway) as well as some noted ol’ faves. (hopefully) stage time is 9pm sharp. https://www.swervedriver.com/ http://www.elemae.com/Page_12x.html http://www.nj.com/maxwells

Date: Sun May 13 02:59:46 2001 Name: Dan City/State/Country: Chicago Comment: I never thought I’d see a day where I would be able to name a favorite band, or send fan mail (“fan” being short for fanatic, which has that obsessive stigma), but after eleven years I have to make accolades known for all that is Swervedriver. I’ve found myself blasting their craft in various situations – four-wheelin’ in a 3/4-ton pickup through the steel mills of Indiana, making deliveries to the 1000-foot ore carriers (good ships!), headphones-only stress management sessions (the 12-minute live “Duress” from The Passenger is Wired CD is a M*F*er), in my cube at my current gig… jeez, I could go on all night. Suffice to say, I love the Swervies, too. This is part of my initial search to get in contact with any band members, and Jez in particular. I’d like it if I could talk shop with ya about drums. If you’re out there guys, I’m at email@example.com. Anyone else interested in rock or rockin’ out hit it up. All the best, drmcd
Date: Sat May 12 23:24:27 2001 Name: Fester City/State/Country: Heartbroken Toronto Comment: Cover songs? “Getting Better”, by the Beatles all the way. The Police’s “The Bed’s Too Big without You”, and U2’s “In God’s Country” would be fun for me too. Remember Siouxsie’s “Through the Looking Glass”, or Laibach’s “Let It Be”? I love those kinds of ideas. More of them please.

Erik all the best with the exams i know they suck. i’m now on holidays for 2 weeks after a semester from hell – i had the most dysfunctional workgroup ever (they force us to work in fekking teams). it was so bad i thought i’d need therapy. every day in everyway i’m getting better and better. what are you studying??? i’m off to do the usual. drunk & disorderly on a saturday nite. have a good weekend all. ! tricycle !!!!!

Date: Thu May 10 23:09:54 2001 Name: Erik City/State/Country: RVA Comment: A good Jez memory for me was this time in Philadelphia in early ’98, the 99th dream tour. Adam was switching guitars and grabbed one from the tech (some long-haired guy). He then stepped up to the mic, closed his eyes, started picking the guitar, and sang the first line to “She Weaves a Tender Trap” over the most god-awful dissonant shit you could possibly imagine. He got the first sentence out when he apparently realized the tech had brought out the wrongly-tuned guitar. The tech rushed onto stage to give Adam the right guitar, and Jez stood on his drum stool and beamed his drumstick at the guitar tech, nailing him pretty hard. My friends and I laughed so hard I thought we’d die. Afterwards, the band played a beautiful version of “She Weaves a Tender Trap.” -E
Date: Thu May 10 19:46:34 2001 Name: Andrew City/State/Country: FTL. HELL Comment: Yes, it is hot down here. But I don’t know why they call it “The Sunshine State”. It’s always raining, like some friggin’ tropical rainforest. Anyway, the show I saw you guys open for the Pumpkins was really interesting. When you guys started playing, Adam’s mic wasn’t working and he had to yell over all those noisey guitars. By the end of the show, I don’t know if your bass player’s rig blew up or what, but he and Jimmy just walked off stage. Jez didn’t give up yet. But then it was just Adam out there feedbacking his guitar and looking like he didn’t take his lithium that morning. Pretty Cool! The Pumpkins were kind of annoying, so the skinheads in the pit started throwing shoes at the band. D’arcy got all pissy and said “We already have your money and we can just walk off stage. Stop throwing shoes, or we are going to stop playing.” They didn’t stop throwing shoes. Those crazy kids! SEE YA! Andrew

City/State/Country: jersey… Comment: Bertrand: don’t get me wrong, i’m not complaining. i am overjoyed to be able to get the CD at all. the flower shop (robin’s label) doesn’t distrubute to the US so it is quite difficult for an american sophia fan to find anything. i bought the first 2 SOPHIA albums on seperate trips to europe and you are quite right.. i paid the equivilent of about $25 each time. but it was totally worth it. they are absolute treasures!
Date: Thu May 10 10:41:13 2001 Name: Bertrand City/State/Country: Liège\Belgium Comment: And if I am in Belgium? What do I have to do? When I will have time out of ******* exams I will search for it in music stores. Hey man you’re lucky to buy it only 15$. So I should reckon you not to complain. You would probably buy it 20$ – like any other albums in fact – in a music store. Expensive life. Even more, when I ordered ‘Mezcal Head’ from USA I had to pay about 25$. So I really think 15$ is a cheap price.
Date: Thu May 10 08:55:09 2001 Name: steve. City/State/Country: jersey… Comment: i finally received my copy of the new SOPHIA live cd in the mail yesterday. it is absolutley beautiful. all of the songs are performed with a string quartet. most of the songs are new (and somehow even darker then the old stuff) but they do this wonderfully slowed down version of ‘SO SLOW” that brings tears to my eyes. ADAM plays guitar on one song. all included in the lineup are JEFF TOWNSIN on drums (also from TOSHACK HIGHWAY)and WILL FOSTER on piano (he also played keys on the TOSHACK HIGHWAY tour but not the CD.) if your in the states, you’ll hae to send $15 cash to belguim, but it is sooooooo worth it!!!

Who was your ex? If you don’t want to mention her name I understand, but maybe you could give me a hint of who she was. Thanks so much for ordering our CD. We defintely appreciate you support. I hope you dig it. I do have a copy of Ecstasy and Wine, but it’s on vinyl (probably the Mona Lisa of my record collection) I could send you a copy of it if you want. Unfortunately, my stereo doesn’t record records very well, but if you want, I’ll attempt to make the best quality copy that I can. I busted out my Rave Down single earlier today. “She’s Beside Herself” is an amazing song. I especially love the vocals, “She’s besi-i-i-i-i-i-ide…” Nobody can stretch out vowels like Mr. Franklin. Take care all, -E

I just reviewed it and the credits say “The Beat In Concert” w/ Pop Will Eat Itself. Does that ring any bells? At least I got your attention! By the way I’m sick of playing my songs w/ a drum machine (I was thinking of calling my demo “Me, Myself, and I” because I have to play all the instruments (or “The Id, Ego, and Superego” for all those pretentious Freudian/Sarte muscians.) Anyhow, the tape is for real and it’s got some good s**t on there. I saw you guys open for the Smashing Pumpkins down here in “the Sunshine State” on the Mezcal Head tour. GREAT SHOW! SEE YA! Andrew

Their debut album is definitely worth picking up… more spiritualized than swervedriver though. Also, has anyone on here heard of the strokes? They’re fantastic. Can’t say i think much of the new Radiohead album. It sounds like B-sides to Kid A. But maybe it will grow on me.
Date: Thu May 3 09:01:27 2001 Name: steve. City/State/Country: jersey… Comment: yeah art, radiohead on SNL was pretty incredicble! not only National Anthem, but Idioteque too! how in Amnesiac? I haven’t heard it except for live versions of o few of the songs on there. i think i’d like to wait until it’s acctually released to hear it this time (build the suspense.) has anyone heard of a band from portland, Maine called CERBERUS SHOAL? they are very, very cool. they have kind of a mogwai meets tortoise meets neil young thing going, but that doesn’t really do it justice. it’s some of the most inovative music i’ve heard in a long time…

Date: Thu May 3 01:11:04 2001 Name: art City/State/Country: nyc Comment: Sick as a dog. Been away for a while. Just got back from Jazz Fest in New Orleans. If you’ve never been, don’t let the name fool you. John Cleary and the Absolute Monster Gentlemen laid down the super-nasty funky stuff. Zach were you in town? Yeah, been listening to lots of Labradford. Love it. Had no idea they were domestic. You guys are psychic, you know? Next you’ll tell me you’ve been listening to old Codeine and Magnog records.. I’ve also been listening to Mogwai:Rock Action and Radiohead:Amnesiac a lot. Those are some swell music makers, yes-sir-ree-bob. Anyone catch Radiohead doing National Anthem on Saturday night Live last year? It was amazing. I downloaded the clip off gnutella. Amazing. Good to be back. Any Jez sightings to report?
