Comment: JJ…I live in good ol’ Ft. Lauderdale, I’m just to lazy to write it every time so I write FTL. Anyway, yeah, I’ll definately post how both “Ours” and “Pete Yorn” sound like live. If anyone has a chance, listen to their stuff at Ours2.net. It’s got thier whole album on there. I can’t stop listening to it!!! Great music!!!

Comment: Um… you’re close, Bertrand. I wouldn’t call it fact, nor do I think the band would agree with such a literal description. I saw a very brief video interview in which Adam was asked about the band name, and the answer was typically vague (speaking from experience, it’s really hard to name a band – it is often a decision made “in the right place at the right time”). I don’t know how well the next comment I’m making will sit with everyone, but road rage here in America is a problem, and I’d love to put a Swervedriver sticker on my car, but I’m afraid someone might think that’s my driving style and take offense. (O.k., sometimes I get swervy, but when you drive a Dodge Dart it’s tough to get aggressive in traffic. Especially when you want to keep the fenders and bumpers all straight and the paint nice.) Sad to think that such a stupid problem here could cause one to think that way… but try driving the expressways here in Chicago and you’ll understand. I see how you could think the name bizarre, though. I know drunk driving is much more frowned upon in Europe than here. Hell, if you get caught here, for $1500 you get off easy. To the lawmakers’ credit, they’re working on changing that. So! Now’s about the time for a new Swervedriver record, so we have something way more interesting to discuss…. I’ve been going though the archives on the board here and finding some very interesting tidbits…….

Comment: So, if I got it, Swervedriver is the fact that you’re drunk while driving your car and then you throw yourself across the road or even in the securtiy rail ? Bizarre.

Comment: Bertrand! “Swerve” and “lurch” have somewhat the same meaning; “swerve” is something you would do more in a automobile, where “lurch” is more on foot. Both are something you would do after “getting wasted”, or “drinking too much alcohol”. “Deviation” would be a more formal term, used in technical or legal language. “Distance apart” would be the simple term for “deviation”. Honestly, I was pressed for time coming back from lunch, and I was too lazy to type the whole name. I remember looking back through the archives on the board here, and your translator couldn’t do the word “backorder”. I find that kind of language translation (or barrier) can be rather entertaining, as well as dangerous or embarrassing. I especially like the way the Japanese fuck up english syntax. So the answer (I’m getting to it!) is that your translation will need to combine the “swerve” and “driver” (driver being… damn, I’m in over my head here and I’m gonna miss my train, a little help anybody?) And thanks For the A. Christie comment, Betrand. I’ll take it as a complement. Leave it to the Ugly Americans to appropriate what they need to spice up conversation (on the Swervedriver board… with french…) good night y’all….

Lauderdale, but I’m writing up a preview of that show. However, i’ll be focusing on pete yorn instead of Ours. Let me know how it is.

Comment: Dan, you write like Agatha Christie: with french words ‘in the text’. I do it in the opposite way, ok? “La chanson des ‘Conducteurs d’embardées'(????) of the day”. That makes me feel, Swervedriver has no translation in french. If ‘swerve’ have the same signification as ‘lurch’, that is a little bit strange! Do I have to take it as ‘lurch’, ‘deviation’ or ‘distance apart’? I searched for ‘swerve’, saw what it means, took these meanings and translated them back in english to have kind of synonyms. Maybe it has exactly the same meaning in english, give me some light please. Hope it isn’t as ridiculous as ‘The Smashing Pumpkins’ (les citrouilles écrasées).

Comment: ERIK- There is a link to our band, We did a live Session for Radio 1 last year from King Tuts Wah Wah Hut with Hundred Reasons who incidentaly rocked. If you look up the Radio 1 web site and then either go the the Evening Session/Session in Scotland section and look for the Hundred Reasons tour or do a word search for Terra Diablo you may find it. I will stress I had the cold from hell that night so my singing is total shit so try to block that out. We just did another live session for Radio One that is to be broadcast on the 9th of August. I think you can listen in at their web site so please do if you can. Its usually on from 8.00pm ooor time I think. Let us know where i can find some of your bands stuff too. Im dead interested to hear it. Hope everyone had a gid weekend. Byeee.

Comment: Yeah, got back from up north myself a few days ago. Saw the international (souvlaki) space station shining in the north sky. Amazing. It wasn’t a star, and it wasn’t a plane, it was an honest to god UFO. About 2:30 at night had a religious experience listening to Pat Metheny on highway 400 (if you can believe that). God is in the details. So’s Swervie for that matter. P.S. There sure is a shitload of roadkill in Canada. I mean, it’s a massacre up here.

Comment: SXSW is in March. It goes from wed-sun usually I think it is like the second week. If you want to book you bands you should start looking into it soon, because they fill all the slots pretty fast. erik, you should try to get your label to book a show. In the past they seem to have labels book all there bands together in one night so they can promote them all together.

Comment: erik: thanks a lot. we would love to come down to VA some time. maybe this fall? at the moment i am getting ready to head out on the road. we are in the process of reconstructing our band. lost our bass player (too focused on work) and our drummer (moving to philly at the end of august.) we’ve been doing a few small shows with the 3 we have left (2 guitars, vox, and congas/djembe) and it has been sounding really interesting. we’re thinking about just sontinuing with just that base three which means reworking our entire first CD and recording the new stuff we’ve been doing (which is just crazy…) for a good representation of our early work, go to www.ZeldaPinwheel.com where can i find dragstrip on the web??? …and the fleating minutes of my second to last week in corporate american slowly dwindle donw…

Steve, yeah I think we are going to try and shoot for SXSW. It’s in March right? It be great to get down to Texas again. God knows we had a romp last time we were there (except this time I’ve got to be on better behavior in regards to the ladies;) Stephen, that would be great if your band could get on SXSW as well. If you guys are ever on the road and need shows down here in “sweet Va.”, let me know. I could probably get you something. Well gang, the weekend is here and I’m spending it down at the beach w/ “the woman”. ‘Hope it’s a good one for the rest of you too. -E

Comment: Whats all this shouting? We’ll have no trouble here. This is a local board for local people. That company that my gramaticaly gifted brother was talking about is something like www.cdzone.com or something to do with CD Zone anyway. We looked it up the other day and fuck me if there wasnt everything from Sun of a mustang ford to Space Travel Rock and Roll so check it out before I buy the lot!!! I found Ejector Seat Reservation second hand on vinal with FREE CD SINGLE!! attached to it for £4 last week. The single has the two endy tracks on it. That one of Ejector Seat CD and another one. STEVE-Im there if your up for it. I start a new teaching job next year at Ayr College so the bucks’ll be rolling in for a change. A swervie convention is much needed I feel. I just realised that the teaching thing makes me sound old as fuck so to clarify things Im 25 OK. I just feel old a fuck. Also does anyone want a copy of my bands EP? We just signed management with Big Life who do Badly Drawn Boy and Nigel Kennedy (erk) among others so its of a fairly decent standard. E-mail terradiablo@woodstock.com or fling a message up. Someone mentioned Swervie babies. Im already teaching my 2 year old niece the way of the Driver. She has her own cloak and light saber and every thing. Already she can lift light objects simply by closing her eyes and humming the solo from Deep Seat. HAIRY HAW. Im off to see Stapelton and The Silver Pill at Nice n Sleazys tonight if you fancy a pint. Give us a shout if you do. Hava a good weekend y’all.

Comment: Chris, I checked and Stella Artois is definitely a belgian beer. One more thing, I live 5 kms(3.25 miles) away from the second biggest brewer of the world, Interbrew (with the famous Jupiler, the best and the cheapest (basic blond, pils) beer all over the country). Everytime I drive in front of the brewery, I’m just as drug addicted by that hop smell. Totally amazing.

Comment: Actually, the subject of cheap beer reminds me of a funny story pertaining our boys. When Swervedriver played in Norfolk, Va. with the Pumpkins in ’93, a friend of mine interviewed them for a local zine. They all sat in a van, talking and drinking beers. Josh, the interviewer, asked them what they thought of American beer. The band kindly told him that American beer was pretty awful. Josh laughed and agreed that it was probably a lot weaker than they were used to, but them something occured to him. There was a side of American culture that Swervedriver probably hadn’t experienced yet. He took the band around the corner to the nearest 7-11 and bought them all 40 ounce bottles of Blue Bull, Old English 800, Magnum, etc. From what Josh told me, the band drank their malt liquors and were like, “Now, this is the stuff.”

I hope your work treats you well. Best of luck to you, Zach. Perhaps when you’re a hot shot lawyer, you can represent Swervedriver the next time a label fucks them over. I must confess to having never tried Stella Artois, but last night I had some Colt 45 that treated me pretty right. You know what I’m talking about, Steve? I’m sure you do. -E

I think it’s fucking amazing. There is a lot more dynamics in that record, especially on tracks like “May Nothing But Happiness Come Through Your Door” which still gives me chills. I say get both!

Comment: I am up for a huge SWD party. I am buying a house in the spring. You all could come to Austin, since it is in the middle of the US. SxSW a huge music festival goes in in March that would be a good time if any one is intrested. We could push to get SWD out here to play for it.

Comment: Hi All, Just got back from my trip to the Silicon Valley. It was a good time. I finished my work early so I got a free day which I spent in San Francisco. It is a really nice town the weather rules. The only bad thing are all the poofters but its OK as long as you stay away from the bars with the rainbow flags out front. I did find a pub called ‘Anfield Rd’ (a pub dedicated to Liverpool Football Club whome I have supported since birth). I spent most of my time and money there. They had Stella on tap which was the first I had seen of it in the U.S. They also had the rugby on (NZ vs. SA) and there were a huge group of Kiwi’s there in support of the All Blacks, who won so I was showered (literally) with pints. It was a good time. I got really drunk and had to drive back to my hotel which was 50 miles away. With no CD player in my rental car which meant no SWD (my cruise control when drunken driving) and no map it proved to be a small miracle when I arrived back at the hotel. I celibrated by drinking a few 7-7’s at the hotel bar before retiring to bed. Erik, I called a college station in San Jose but they couldn’t find your album, bastards. I call you later in the week. nigel

Then I fly back to the big easy for a few days, then off to Los Angeles I go. Good luck to you. Where in the West are you heading? I guess almost anywhere is West of Jersey, huh? BTW, I have used Mogwai and Toshack as soundtracks for some longer drives myself. Cheers, Zach

Comment: it is absolutley sureal in here today. i spent an absolutley mad weekend in brooklyn driving around with toshack highway and mogwai as the soundtrack… i saw superchunk, guided by voices, and jon spencer do a free show at coney island. coney island is perhaps the most bizare place i have ever been to and it is totally magnified when there are 500 drunk/stoned indie rock kids running around (myself included.) BERTRAND: if you’re looking for noisy, young team is the way to go (although rock action is pretty noisy too.) and today i quit my job (or at least give notice) and out west i go!!!

Comment: there’s a Sydney band called Sounds Like Sunset that i webcasted earlier tonite that i think u ppl would prolly appreciate. They have MBV / Sonic Youth tendencies, but still sound like themselves, (a la long overdriven tunes + daydreamy melodies + sweet vox). and managed to put together a more than decent CD (its one of the few i have actually bought in the past year or so…). You can hear it @ www.modularpeople.com, & buy it @ www.chaosmusic.com.au (which ships globally). just thought it was worthy of a mention… when things pan out i’ll let u guys know before i webcast a band i think u mite like. Dave and Haw, I’d definitely support your bands more if I was on the same continent. Perhaps I can get back to Europe again one of these days and do just that. I love this sense of community that we have through this website, thanks Art! Oh yeah, Dan, the video that I was talking about was actually flimed during the Raise tour, so unfortunately, no Jez. But let me know if you’re interested. I saw this great band last night called Mazeratti. They’re from Athens, Ga. Have any of you down South seen/heard them? If they come around to any of your areas, definitely check them out. I think everyone here would probably dig them. Tonight, Man or Astroman? is playing here in Richmond. I may go see them, they’re a lot of fun. But anyway, I hope all is well for everyone. The weekend is upon us!! -E

I’ve seen the Swervies only three times (once while tripping), and I need to see more of him in action so I can rip some of his style off (LOL)! Once again, I am mistaken. Twas Mosquito, not Mustache I was thinking of. And as I type this, wasn’t there a Sonic Youth spin-off with Mosquito as the name? BTW, got August 11 logged. The Notes’ not a bad room. If there’s anything I can do to return the favors to you guys, please don’t hesitate to ask. Maybe at the very least, I could send you copies of the only live Swervedriver video that I own. Just say the word. Dan, I know the guys in Mustache were friends with Mr. Albini. Perhaps they have some connection with Tortoise through him. I doubt Mustache and Tortoise would have played together being that Mustache was a 2-guitar, 3-bass, loud and trashy rock band, but of course, I could be wrong. I hope you’re able to get some good musicians together. Send me an email if need me to try to get some info. elsewhere: j_nevada59@hotmail.com Maybe one of the folks I know in the Chi-town could be the missing piece to your project. Steve, thank you too, bro. “Long Life Lucky” was always a personal fave. That’s cool you requested that song. I hope your trip to San Jose is a good one. Drop me a line when you get back. I got some good pictures of all of us from Blake and Lowe’s wedding. I need to send you copies of them. I hope all is well with the rest of you Swervies out there, and I’m going to say, for the umpteenth time, to all of you out there that are helping support my band in anyway, THANK YOU SOOOOOOO MUCH! -E

Comment: Right on, Erik. If memory serves, Mustache was aligned with the Tortoise axis… I’d know some of the names if I heard/saw ’em. After I crank out some more contracts today I’ll hit the Beluga site. Truth be told, I don’t pay much attention to labels/bands from here in town anymore. I dropped out of the “scene” along ’95-’96 when I took a job that had me working tons of overtime and (mandatory) every other weekend; that and the feeling that no one was interested in anything that wasn’t approaching Pumpkinesque status are the reasons for my apathy. I called WNUR; the kid who picked up said he was running a techno show, but he’d look for it. Thanks, kid. Hey aussies! This probably ain’t the venue for this sort of thing, but what are HD/HR/EH Holdens? Any equivalents to N. American GM stuff?…..gotta go!……drmcd

Also i think Dan mentioned aussie iron, dude we are a young country with not alot of our own culture due to what, 200 odd years of civilisation but man we did have some of the mac daddy cars back in the day!! All of the old, say pre HR Holdens and the really old Fords are awesome. Heaps a fins and cool shaped tail-lights. Travelled a few times to far north east coast and back in a EH ‘shagging wagon’ (Holden), and they just keep powering on & on!! Comment: Dan, Thanks for calling the radio station, man. The label that my band is with, Beluga, is based out of Chicago. Since you’re looking for a bassist I thought I’d tell about one of our labelmates, Mustache. They were a 3-bassist band (seriously!). I believe they’ve disbanded and are looking to pursue other projects, and yes, all of them live there in Chicago. If you’re looking for a bassist who knows what’s up with Rock and Roll, one of the bassists from the Mustache crew might be just the thing you’re looking for. You could probably get in touch with them somehow through the Beluga website that I posted below. It sounds like some pretty rockin’ stuff you’re putting together. We’re playing at the Note in Chicago on August 11th. Perhaps you could come out and we could talk about our bands playing together sometime. That would rule… -E

Comment: Congrats to ya, Erik. I usually feel ambivalent towards the record industry, but after 10-12 years of shitty day jobs, freakazoid band members, and dealing with the post-Pumpkins glut in the market here in the Hog Butcher, I think any aspiring rocker would understand the word “jaded”. I haven’t called in to WNUR (Northwestern U.) in ages, but I suspect your material would go over well on the Fast n’ Loud show(if it’s still on). I’ll have to give those crazy collich kidz a call. BTW, as long as we’re here, I’m looking for a “major rager on the 4-string mutherfucker”; specifically, somebody with a P or J-bass (or a Gibson Firebird!) and 200+ watts to fill in the bottom end of the rock unit I have in development right now. We have two guitars (one LP through a Marshall, one Strat through a Orange), a front man with a penchant for emulating Iggy/Jagger/?, and me with a Slingerland kit. Anyone in Chicago with 2+ nights a week, trans to East Village practice space and gear, hit me up. We hang with cute girlies all the time, too. daniel_mcdermott@yahoo.com………later!

Comment: Hey all, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT!! I appreciate it in ways that I can’t even explain. We defintely work hard at what we do, so we’re gonna keep on trying to get this thing rolling on a larger scale. Art, thanks a lot for checking out the MP3. “New Ride” is generally a favorite song for folks to hear live because of the doubled-up guitar solo. We are a 3 guitar band. I was asked in July ’99 to be the third guitar player. I initially thought they were nuts for asking me. It seemed it was going to be a noisey bunch of muck, but it’s actually worked out nicely. Zach, thanks so much for calling WTUL. I know we’re doing well at one of the Baton Rouge stations, but I don’t think we’ve charted in NoLa yet. Fester, I forgot to mention the Tea Party in my Canada tribute. They are an excellent band as well. I heard that the singer gets teased for sounding too much like Jim Morrison, but I think he sounds great. There’s actually a band that we’re labelmates with, called the Cats and Jammers, that are a good straight-up pop band similar to Sloan. You can check them out on the Beluga site I posted. I can’t remember the name of the Toronto station that received our promo, but I’ll definitely let you know. Thank you!! You guys are the greatest!! I hope I get the chance to thank you all in person someday, -E

Comment: i just went on a small cd buying binge and picked up 3 cd’s that are simply amazing… 1. the swords project ep – instrumental band from eugene, oregon. they’re kind of godspeedish, but not so serverly and dramatic and serious. really cool. 2. low / the dirty three : in the fishtank. as good as you might expect a collaboration from these two bands to be… 3. CERBERUS SHOAL : sail my moon yacht. why nobody knows of this band, i will never understand. they have like 5 albums and they’re all wonderful. they kind of have a neil young meets mogwai with some middle eastern stuff thrown in their kind of feel… that’s all i wanted to say…

Comment: Erik-Beautiful places and beautiful ladies is correct sir! More than willing to help out, but to my shame I usually don’t hit the college/university stations. Would we be talking about Ryerson up here in TO? Sloan’s fun, Danko rocks, but look out for Tea Party. They have the American distribution machine behind them now and there’s a serious game plan in effect. We’re talking about a band that Jimmy Page blares at his parties. Apparently, he says Tea Party picks up where Zep left off. How cool is that?

If we break the Top 30 in 15, just one more, we will be put onto CMJ’s top 200 and will have all kinds of nice things happen for us. This is where my utter shamlessness comes into effect: If I may be so brave as to ask all of you, my dear brethren Swerveheads, to call up your local college radio stations and make requests for tracks off The Dragstrip Syndicate’s “Volume” record, I would be eternally grateful. It seems to be doing particularly well in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, upstate New York, Toronto, Illinois, various places in the South like Louisiana, Arkansas, and Georgia, and also parts of the west coast like Oregon, Washington, and parts of California. I feel like a schmuck for asking all of you this, but needless to say I’m pretty excited about this good news, and thought “what the hell?” If any of you make these calls, you are truly kind souls of whom I will owe the utmost thanks. If nothing more, just wish us luck… -E

Comment: i wrote earlier that i saw siansperic a few weeks ago and that i wasn’t impressed – but the new album is totally amazing and i agree with the verve/slowdive comparisons. it’s too bad it didn’t transfer live. Danko Jones on the other hand are crazzzy live, and should definately be checked out if you have the chance. off to cottage for midweek fun! two and a half hours in the car with swervedriver is never bad!

Comment: “Oh Canada”…If you guys were fans of the “Storm in Heaven” era of Verve, definitely check out “Somnium” by Sianspheric. The singer even sounds like Richard Ashcroft with all the delayed vocals and everything. The guitar player does a good Nick McCabe as well. I was a little let down with “There’s always someplace you’d rather be”, which is the most recent thing I’ve heard from them. I’ll have to check out this other album you guys are talking about. But overall, I’ve got to say that Sianspheric is one of Canada’s finest, along with Sloan and Danko Jones (I got to hand it to Danko especially. I didn’t know Canadians could rock like that) Damn, now that I think about it, I need to get back up to Canada sometime. Halifax was a great city, and I also loved spending time with my friends on Prince Edward Island. Beautiful places and beautiful ladies (who amazingly loved showering an American schmuck like me with tons of attention…not too shabby) Sorry, I guess this was my tribute to Canada posting. -E

Comment: hi… i am back after an amazing week off in Montreal (where i a now considering moving.) antartica is a really amazing band… or was… they broke up a few months ago. zack: some of the songs on their 2nd cd (81:23)are a little technoish so the ones you heard probably aren’t fake, although the is another band with that name (we are talking of the one on FILE-13 records right???)… the send album kind of has a New Order for the 21th century feel. i highly recomend anything by them, but especialy the first cd (acctually a 3 song ep) tiled 23:03. it is wonderful.

Sianspheric, one of my friends said I would like them, and seeing your reviews, I’ll have to order it (I’ll bet HMV Canada has it). Swervedriver isn’t on a US record label because we have bands like Blink182 (Sorry to whoever likes those guys, but I hear that crap and hear Swervedriver and it just makes me turn the radio off and put the SWD disk in). The song I MEANT to write was “Do you know the way to SAN JOSE?” sung by Dionne Warwick!!! Chris …looked for song writing credit and could find it…am I blind? I love album credit trivia. Talk about over analitical!!! As for me, a friend turned me on to Swervedriver with Mezcal Head first. And man I had one at the time! Check out the “Mescalito” in Carlos Casteneda books, mix with Swervies, shake with smoke, and you pour one strong cocktail!!! Then he said Raise was thier best shit and it definately has great songs and vibe. I followed them ever since.

Comment: How rude of me. I get on this board without introducing myself, and then proceed to blather about what little I know… Yes, Andrew, it’s Dionne Warwick and yes, Chris, Bacharach wrote it. Supremes. What was I smokin’… For me, Los Swervies are a far more temperate band. Both ESR and 99th Dream hit me in the summer months, and Mezcal Head has all the South American imagery… and after 34 Chicago winters, I’ve had enough. Adam might like the autumn here, though… never been to Europe, but I imagine my town feels a lot like London. Especially when it gets foggy here, and Bubbling Up is in effect…

Comment: Chris, sounds like a helluva good way to start the off the week. Tuomas, you still out there, you Finnish rocker?!!? Last I heard you were driving out to some midsummer festival with a Swerve soundtrack in mind. Hope all is well. Did you guys ever have a particular season in which Swervedriver’s music lent itself especially well to you? For me, ESR was always a good autumn/winter kind of album whereas 99th Dream seems to work well for me during the spring and summer. I listened to Mezcal a lot during the autumn of ’93 (when I was young and did way too many drugs) Raise pretty much hits it for me year round though. I used to go to this little beach town down in North Carolina during the off season (around January-March) Something about being by the ocean when it’s still cold and no one’s around for miles is truly amazing. Swervedriver blends perfectly with times like that… Sorry about my Romanticized dribble (but I have a feeling I’m not the only one who feels this way)… -E

Then ‘good ships’ came out with the similar chords & lyrics as ‘wrong treats’ as well… hmmm. that fix things?

Comment: I’m all nervous about the Toronto Olympic bid. We’ll know this Friday at 10:00am, and if we get it, the rest of the summer will be one hell of a party. The main competition is Beijing and Paris. We won’t loose to Paris because our Tower is much bigger than theirs. Besides, not only did they win the World Cup, but the European Cup as well, so fuck ’em, they’re cut off. The tough one of course, will be Beijing. Now, as I understand it, when Sydney won they beat Beijing by a signal vote. That’s the kind of karma we need. Now, we may not have a futuristic looking opera house, or famous super models running up and down our beaches, but what we do have is a giant retractable dome, and some pretty cool strippers. Combine that with our love for democracy and violent sports, and we’re practically Australian. I mean, if you guys can do it, so can we. It’s only logical. Please wish us luck! I’d hate to think we’d loose because we didn’t make a hobby out of political prisoners. And it’s okay Hairy, we forgive you for Texas.

That gives you some idea of the nick it is in so I quickly set to work cutting loads of big holes in the back and ripping all the speakers out of the hi-fi graveyard in my garage. Swervedriver sounds great with that underlying diesel purr under it. Needless to say I trashed it about 2 months ago skidding into the back of someone while eating a hamburger. I had to scrape it all off the windscreen before the people in the car in front came out and thought something serious had happened. I loved that van. boo hoo weep. Kik, that sounds ace. “doing the beach burn from Freo” There’s nothing I’d love more that to go across Oz in a flash 60’s mobile. Alas I’ll have to make do with Seamill beach for now. Maybe one day I’ll own one, but for now, my little puttering Geo will have to do. Still, speeding down the highway listening to Raise just doesn’t seem the same when you drive a barely-functioning Geo Metro.

I always listen to the regular one so my import doesn’t share the same fate as your Mezcal Head. I didn’t see anything on either of the Dragstrip Syndicate sites about the Green Angels. Comment: ahh. cars & music, my 2 favourite things. i used to ride the cycle, but the only problem with a motorbike is that you cant listen to any music while riding. so i put that one away. looked pretty cool tho. then got started on the alfas & even tho they rust totally i can’t get enuf of them. got a gtv 2000 at the mo & it feels so good (had to put it in there somewhere) to do the beach burn from Freo with the swerversters playing right there beside me. + for speed n things like that there’s always the RX7…. it’s a bit too glam 4 me, but the Bose stereo in it really rocks on ….

Comment: I was noodling around on my acoustic earlier and subconsciously started playing “Vapor Trail” by Ride, a song that I have never played before in my life. I probably sat there picking around with it for about a half an hour. Needless to say, this made break “Nowhere” out from my music stacks. I didn’t realize how long it’d been since I listened to that album. The music definitely takes me to a special place. Dan-o, the Harry and Maggie tie comes from the lyric, “I was born on a (close?) street”, which begins all three of those songs. Chris Lewis, I’ve always wanted to meet someone from Christchurch. It seems like a cool town from what I’ve read. Are you a Roy Montgomery fan? He’s from that area I believe, an amazing neo-pysch guitar player. And yes, I know how to play Rave Down. I’m supposed to transcribe it and send it here to the site, which I promise I’ll do when I get the chance. Well, I’m going to play my guitar some more (even though I should be reading some George Bernard Shaw for my Modernism class) Take care all. Oh yeah, Steve, today I received your post card from Austin. Fuck you too. Love, Erik

Comment: Uh… I hear the (obvious) structural ties between Good Ships/Wrong Treats; but where duz Harry & Maggie fit in? And for simpler pleasures, who drives what when motoring with SWD? I had a ’74 Plymouth Fury 2-dr with a 440 not too long ago. “…without this safety net you’re freed / to find serene pleasure of speed…” Ahhh… without seat belts or catalytic converters, either. What do the swervies drive themselves?

Comment: Just recovered from the most tyring 5 days of my life!!! Feels like I’ve been away for ages. Had a good on time in Londinium. We went down Denmark St where all the music shops are.I walked into one shop and saw about 8 or 9 origional 60’s Fender Jags and Jazzmasters. “Well fuck me side ways” I thought. So im saving as of now. You just dont see those things in Glasgow. I met the drummer out of Supergrass after the gig and what a nice young chap he is. He tanked me up full of Jack Daniels and was saying theyre writing some new stuff just now. Also spotted Shawn Ryder while sitting in a Chinees restraunt. Still looks rough as fuck!Dve back on Friday and wentstraight to T in the Park after getting the a window that fell in fixed on the mini bus. Put up my tent at 12 o’clock in the pissing rain and proceaded to lay into my Buckfast. to my suprise I found that Buckfast warms you up almost one third quicker that ordinary alchohol (I’ve done tests. Many, many tests) so I dryed out quicker than anyone else….which was nice. Any way to cut a long story short played T in the Park after about 3 buckets and had a great time. Grandaddy were the best band I saw. Realy Realy good. The worst ironicaly enough happened to be Lambchop. Sound too quiet. You could hear everyone speaking which was quite offputting. Anyway Im off to check my stock of herbal acid. Anyone tryed them? They’re totaly legal and put a nice wee edge on things. You can get them at Festivals and stuff. Byee.

Davie boy-Can do, sherlock, can do. as i said before, the plan is just to work thru the whole back catalogue (dunno if I’m being a bit over-ambitious here?!)starting with the easy one’s and post it to art. Er,not in the one-er, obviously. Ian, man-saw the T in the park highlights on t’telly lad. Fuckin’ WELL turned into a mudfest on the Saturday, I’ve no doubt ye had a maddie anyways, Proclaimers looked fuckin’ ace!! Lord, forgive my nation for the abomination that is Texas, though. So, needless to say, there’s some serious cowpie floating around there. God bless ya Ricky! And a big up to Alex who’s also there. Scored some wicked music this weekened, including The Strokes, and Tahiti 80. The latter being a fine substitute for early Boo Radley fans.est-your right. Comment: Jesus!! I’ve really missed out on a lot this past week. Good to see a Jez posting. Sounds as if everyone is doing splendidly (especially you, Ricky) Paul, How’ve things been going for you? I was in Raleigh all week helping my girlfriend move into a new apartment. It was a fucking nightmare, but we eventually got her settled. I saw some great bands on Friday night while I was down there, The Last of the Juanitas, who are from Portland, and All Night, from Greensboro, NC. It was an incredible show. On Saturday night, we played down in Winston Salem for this thing called the “Heavy Rebel Festival” (cheesy name, eh?) But it was great fun. All these trash rock bands from all over the country were there. We went over really well. A few people told me that we were the best Rock and Roll band they had ever seen. That was really sweet of them to say, (but they obviously haven’t seen Swerve!). We got all kinds of crazy compliments like “you guys sound like Cream with the soul of the Stooges and a touch of Husker Du.” But anyway, enough gabbing about me. I’m glad that everyone else is doing so well. Steve, I know you like to stick more to your British roots, but did you party down for the 4th? I’ll never forget that classic Steve quote from the 4th of July years back…”Damn, I just watched fireworks in celebration of my country getting their ass kicked!!”… too funny. Just discovered this place existed yesterday and having been a fan fof swervedriver for a couple of years it was pretty cool to find that there are others out there who like swervedriver as much as I do. Anyway, a few questions. Is there anyplace where I can get swervedriver tabs (I’m not bothered about which songs)? For any Australian fans of SWD, is it possible/easy to get a copy of ejector seat reservation over there cos I’m going there on holiday and need that album to complete my collection. Oh and lastly, is there gonna be a new album? Thanks in advance to all answers.

Comment: Zach, the Fez show was the best show I’ve seen in a long time. The sound was impeccable and Adam’s performance was brilliant and soulful. I shouted out Laze It Up a few times and he kind of smiled it off. I think after hearing Flaming Heart I finally shut up. It was on the Sandblasted EP which was rather widely distributed. That’s when i first heard it.

Comment: Dan…Yeah, I noticed the Elton John and Elvis Costello lyrics in Swervie songs. In “Bubbling Up”…”1972, Rocket Man on the moon”, “Mars”(b-side 7-inch) “Mars ain’t the kind of place to raise you’re kids. In fact it’s cold as hell.” Big time Elton John lyrics.Elvis Costello, too, and I heard Adam say he’s a big Elvis fan. Gotta love “Alison”. Anyway, had to conferm you’re not totally insane! Comment: Been watching this board for a few weeks now. Y’all might find this bit interesting. I found out ’bout Swervedriver through the Pumpkins this way. I was a H.S. classmate of James Iha and their stage manager/guitar tech. I was a flatmate of the tech as well, and while I was not really down with the Pumpkins’ music or “scene” here in town, the perks were plentiful and the first 4 Creation 12″ started appearing on the turntable in our swingin’ bachelor pad in 1990. “She’s Beside Herself” was pretty much the godhead of recorded audio after that (at least giving Sonic Youths’ “Expressway to Yr Skull” a run at the time). “Deep Seat” confirmed initial awe. After that the songs kept getting more fluid and polished; it’s amazing to see a bands’ career average be so consistent yet unpretentious. On another subject, has anyone else identified Elvis Costello or Elton John lyrical refs in Swervie songs? I have. At least I’ve heard similar phrases. Somebody let me know if I’m making this up… and Jez, where are you? laters, drmcd

Comment: My mate Brian bought Raise the same night we went to see Vic Reeves Big Night Out at Glasgow Pavilion in 1991/2 or something. Having laughed our bollocks off we went home and listened to it after a smoke and that was that. They became the sound track to pretty much every special event in my life. I’ve now got two copys of every album (exept Raise) because they keep getting scratched to fuck from so much use. I think I’ll stick them on a dat tape to ensure they can be appreciated for generations to come. Art- I heard the acoustic version of Harry and Maggie a few weeks ago and noticed what you were saying about the narative. The lyrics for that song have got to be some of the best ever written!!! Its hard to tell some of them on the album track but they realy shone through on the acoustic version. Im of to Londinium tomorrow and then its T in the Park so have a gid un folks. See ya next week.

Comment: ‘Son of Mustang Ford’ was the song that got me hooked. A friend had just picked up Raise when it was released and said we (Some other firends too 😉 Had to hear this song. As soon as I heard it I had to go to Tower and pick it up! Been hooked on Swerve ever since. Fav song? Man, can’t really pick just one. A few would be For Seeking Heat, Blowin’ Cool, Girl On A Motorbike, Rave Down, Laze It Up, The Other Jesus, Bubbling Up, Scrawl and Scream, Land Of The Lost, 99th Dream, The Directors Cut Of Your Life, Homeless Homecoming, Just Landed…Ok snuck that one in. That’s a few right? 😉 Too hard to whittle ’em down.——> BTW, I thought Giant Steps was excellent! Anyone here ever get into ‘Love Lies Crushing’? They have a song called ‘Charmed’ which is sort of a ‘Screeching Wall of Sound’ which is very cool off of their first disk, ‘bloweyelashwish’. Take Care!

Comment: “Laze it Up” can stand alone as a personification of Rock and Roll: anthemic, tough, driven, visual, beautifully introspective, and a kick-ass guitar solo. When I first heard that song I felt that I had discovered the “Kick Out the Jams” or the “Down On the Street” or the “Jumping Jack Flash” of my generation. Truly a fucking amazing song…

Comment: CountFLY, the song that probably hooked me was Rave Down, though I’d heard stuff before and certainly liked them a LOT. But it didn’t become life changing until Rave Down. That song became the soundtrack to so many significant moments in my life that I can’t listen to it without daydreaming. The first two SWD records I owned were the Sandblasted and Son of Mustang Ford 12″ EPs. Juggernaut Rides Again still kills me, especially after hearing Adam perform it recently. Comment: lmao fester! “shot out of a confetti cannon” has to be the funniest ‘net quote i’ve read in some time. the geffen version of 99th dream has Electric77 / Stellar Caprice as 2 parts to the same song (which makes more sense when u hear the lyrics in the chorus). “Camdenscenedubbedshoegazer”, is the instumental before “wrong treats”. although i have both versions, i tend to refer to the geffen tracklisting, & also prefer the faster version of “these times”. boo radleys never bit my toe. the doves are the closest thing to decent guitar music atm. & i saw jane’s 2nd last show before the big split & their issues boiled over into the show.. perry was screaming out “faggot!” @ the crowd & insulted dave for getting some notes wrong, and threw approx 76 miscellaneous tantrums… lol, was still a corker though 🙂

Comment: Got into the Boo Radleys because Swervie thanks them in the notes of Mezcal Head. Their first alblum was great and then it when down from there. The real gem is the Adrenaline ep though, but anything after Giant Steps sounds like it was shot out of a confetti cannon. CF-Deep Seat was the ear opener, but like Mike, it wasn’t until I saw them live in 94′ that I decided to shave my head and become a Swervonian. Just discovered The Beta Band courtesy of High Fidelity. Great, great movie. Even better tunes, for sure.

Comment: I have never heard the Boo Radleys and I always heard them kind of lumped into the shoegazer catagory then today I found their tape Giant Steps released in 1993 for 99 cents so I got it but it’s so jangley I don’t know if’n I can dig it. Do you guys know if their earlier stuff was heavier or more on the drone or psychedelic side? What’s the dealiyo? I gotta go. I drank some moonshine today from Tennesee about 120 proof. No taste smooth going down and two gulps and I couldn’t feel my legs. Pretty cool.

Comment: Hey all, hope everyone’s weekends were good. Mine was quite cool. Our gig on Friday was great. Paul, the singer for the Candy Snatchers, who once called us “poseurs”, was there and lost his shit over us. He bought us rounds of drinks and wants to set up some shows at the beach. Strange how we won him over all the sudden. Have a good time at Marilyn Manson’s show. I met him once. Steve, from Austin, was with me. We were very drunk and very rude to him. I think we scared him actually, the poor putz. Steve, I saw my parents this weekend, they told me to tell you Hi and to keep up with what you’re doing. To answer the question about the Swervedriver song that first hooked me, “Son of Mustang Ford” convinced me to check out the album, but I think it was “Deep Seat” and “Sunset” that really blew me away (even though I thought the entire album rocked) Later I heard the Sandblasted EP and fell hard for “Laze it Up”. I guess there’s no easy answer for that question. “Somnium” by Sianspheric was phenomenal. I wasn’t too impressed with “There’s Always Some Place You’d Rather Be” (but it’s a great title) and unfortunately, I never heard anything by Ned’s that floated my boat (no offense to anyone) Maybe I just always heard the wrong tunes by them. But anyway, I hope everyone’s recovering from hangovers and gets the week off to a good start. -E

Comment: The only difference with the Geffen 99th Dream and the Zero Hour or SWD one is that there is a different take of ‘these times’ on it which is faster and has a kick-arse guitar solo in it. The electric 77 thing is just a misprint on the sleeve, the album wasn’t re-recorded for zero hour – it’s exactly the same but for one track, worth getting though……

Comment: Hey, thanks (you guys) for the tips on Swervedriver cd’s in Toronto. I’ll have to check out some of those places for my 99th Dream cd. As for Ned’s Atomic Dustbin I think their first album was good. The duel bass thing, I thought, was cool. But then they started to go poppy and mediocore. Though a few tunes were good.

Comment: Didn’t Sianspheric open for SWD’s 98′ Toronto show? We arrived late to the show and only caught the last couple of songs from their set. It wasn’t till a few weeks later when a friend lent me their (debut?) disk that it clicked. I haven’t heard the most recent release, but what I have heard reminded me of the Verve’s “All In The Mind” ep. Good stuff. I’m now off to the races. Cheers!
