I am unsure about how to record myself playing other than using n-track studio (a peice of software that i bought that allows me to use my computer as a recording studio, its very good indeed). I would also be up for meeting up with you lot in a public place perhaps and having a jamming session on some swervedriver tracks. Im getting a fender jazzmaster once ive sold my telecaster. However I do have a strat which is a classic guitar. Can I Join the band? Who is gonna play which bits etc? –Dave

Hey Adam, if you found that in the SWD office, does that mean you guys are ‘Getting back to work’ as it were, and making room for new matrial? 😀 Oh, please, please, please, please…I can’t wait to see the list. Does anyone have a ‘list’ of everything ever released by SWD? I just found my ‘Son of Mustang Ford’ single this week (I have my CD singles in a separate area from my full CD collection and then have them separated by whether they are cardboard sleeve or jewel case. Also, I forgot I had it because I didn’t buy it. A friend gave it to me, the same guy who first turned me on to SWD. Anyway, I was really happy when I realized I have that, and it is now safely in my ‘favorites’ CD tower with the rest of the SWD material :D). Oh, Does anyone know if the TH/Sianspheric single has been released? Dream Well Swervies…and Kill All The Super Heroes!

Truly a nice feeling 🙂 I partied with Grahm in 1995 in San Francisco…at that time, he was involved in a project called “Invisible Friend”. The guy had the true ‘Swervedriver” spirit. Very much into metaphysics and partying. Bless him and the spirit of ‘Swervedrivers’ worldwide!

Many journalists mention Dinosaur Jr as a major influence on Swerve (the Our Band Could Be Your Life book, for one example). I was just wondering if that’s something that’s just a media angle, or if Adam or Jim ever mentioned Mascis’ Dinosaur work as an inspiration? I am also a huge Mascis fan and would think that it’s cool, if I could feel like I was listening to the birth of Swervedriver, at the 3:01 minute mark of Tarpit off of You’re Living All Over Me.

We are instrumental kinda in the same vein as Mogwai but spacy sounding with atmospheric synth-guitar and also some sick tribal drumming. I hate to say it but the satansville video is very cheezy – sorry guys. When I think of a video for satansville I think of Johnny Depp and Bineco Del Toro(whatever his name is) from “fear and loathing in las vegas” driving thu the desert in a caddy all wacked out on LSD. 🙂

Hey has any of you people ever seen a swervedriver music video? Ive seen the music video on the Road Rash computer game for Duel, but ive never seen a proper MTV2 Video with Swervie on it. you can vote for Swervedriver to get played on MTV2 by going to www.mtv2-europe.com I think. You can create ur own hour and if u look under swervedrivers videos there is quite a few like “my zepher”, “last train to satansville” etc… check it out. I was wondering if any of you have actually seen these videos…..

Anyone in Chicago May 11th? Hit Phyllis’ Musical Inn (Division & Wood Sts.) after 9pm, and bring women. Dress is dive bar casual. So far, it’s us and another outfit called Rotgut. Oh, yeah – we’re called Red Sentence. Don’t look at me, I didn’t make it up. I’m just the drummer. I don’t get too much say in the Battle Of The Band Names… my best candidate was Roman Candles, but it got shot down real early in the game. BTW, I’ll happily sit in as Jez for the SWD tribute 🙂

That’s where I picked up some bits’n’pieces. ‘Never lose….’ always pops up from time to time. I can’t think of anywhere in Glasgow that has any Swervie stuff apart from Echo on Byres Rd perhaps. The second hand shops on Decourcy’s Arcade trawl up some stuff from time to time. Hope this helps.

The drummer namechecked the swervies in a recent interview on www.the-vines.net. In response to whether the next record was going to sound the same or a complete u-turn, he said, “Swervedriver’s 99th Dream does it for me” thought that was pretty cool. looks like they haven’t totally lost their relevance, especially among other musicians.

I’m sure he’s going to end up making some kind of name for himself as a musician because he’s absolutely phenomenal. I used to get all giddy over just knowing someone so gifted. The Sister Sound site that he made is great. Hopefully people will catch on to them, even it is posthumous. Their songs, “Ecstatic Hum”, “Blanket Me”, and “No Place to Be” are sooooooo good. Everyone should them check out if you get the chance, (www.sistersound.com) Arrrgh, I’m sick of working… I recently saw the movie, “Orphans.” It was great, filmed in Glasgow with an excellent mix of humor, despair, and tenderness. Hairy and Ian probably know the movie already. Lately I’ve been listening to Curtis Mayfield, Oneida, the Count Five, Willie Nelson’s “Stardust”, and Leonard Cohen. Hope all of you are well. -E

But I was a chick, in a small redneck town, just moved from the city, I got soo much grief!!! But as ya say, ‘its cool now’!!!!

I’m back from oop North on Wed but I reckon that’s a gig well worth checking out. Also, all british residents of Swervonia, check out the live review of BRMC in Mojo- there are a list of bands mentioned as influences goin’ from J&MC to Ride to “even Swervedriver, whom they resemble visually to an almost spooky degree”. Erik, I couldn’t agree with you more about the Skate/Punkrock blender! Those were magical times! It didn’t used to be cool to be either of those things where I come from, but it was arguably the best time of my life (AND cool, in my opinion!)

They list Swervedriver as one of there fav. bands and it shows in their sound a bit. Check out http://www.sizeofanocean.com/ or get “Amputee” or “Catalyst” off Audiogalaxy to see what i’m on about. They’ve created some buzz about their live show, so i’m gonna check them out at the QMU on April 20th when they support The Cooper Temple Clause.

That and anything by the Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, the Misfits, and Minor Threat. Jesus, what an amazing time. There’s something all too pure about mixing youth, skateboarding, and punk rock into a veg-o-matic. You end up with the finest spread of your young life.

Man, it was great. As for the Whigs, Art once sent me this great link of them doing “When Doves Cry.” Good shit. Ghost, I just saw your boy Ron about an hour ago. We chatted briefly about Your Girl for the Night. He seemes to have some high hopes for it. Sounds like a good thing indeed. I can’t wait to get out of work tonight. I’ve got a cold Heineken waiting for me. Are you going to Macrock, Ghost? We’re playing around 1:00 on Saturday. It’s going to be very strange being the only rock band in the midst of 10,000 emo kids. See ya peeps. -E

Haven’t read anything of literary value in a while, but the last movie that floored me was “American History X”. Oh, and for the people who wanted the Swervedriver videos, I’m working on making some copies. I’ll get in touch with you soon. Later– B

Airfaire is dirt cheap to europe! even for us students! I would fly out there for good…..uh…. effects and a SWD show! Fester, the police RULE!!!! Stewart Copeland is a genious! he is to drums what Adam is to all of us Git-players! I’m in amazement EVERYTIME I listen to the police! such sheer volume from a 3-piece. Also, if you like lone wolf & cub, check out Appleseed, by Masamune Shirow…VERY techno, but brilliant nonetheless!…..EST, I’ve been listening to the Arab Strap, “the weekend….” and I have to say, it’s incredibly depressing, but I still keep listening to it….i’m not sure why. Dan, I’ve bought Raise 3 times, and 2 days ago I just lent it to a girl at school….as I handed it to her, I made sure to tell her that I was on my 3rd copy AND that I lend it out because I love it, but I’d prefer not to buy it again…..let’s just say I’m hoping for more than the CD back in return! Funk Puppy, the GooGooDols and matchbox 20 should be shot and buried in a shallow grave, and yes, Chizzy….I all too well understand your pain of being from the same town as a band like the Goos!…….Well, there’s my rant, here’s my list!…..Movies….”2001″-yup, can’t get enough, “requium for a dream”….that’s my “hood” boys!…..Music…Husker Du- how can’t you listen to them? Mogwai-c’mon, die young, Tortiose-“standards” The Toshack EP, I’ve been diggin the first few songs of an album by a band called “snow patrol”, though they start to sound like a V-W ad after a while, I made a nice tape out of the good songs from Ride “Tarantula” and “Carnival o’ cheese”…..Black night crash RULES!……and here’s my obscurity(drumroll)…….. the BLOODY FUCKIN WHO!…..ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA…….AND B’LAST…..from Santa Cruz california!!!!!!….reading time has been spent with Michele Foucault…..Remember May 68!!!!!!!…sorry to be so long-winded!

And then there’s Fernando–dude you rock!! Don’t you guys see what this can do? I’m interested in this internet crap for this sole purpose. To bring people together, who’ve been separated by distance as well as bad generic culture that distracts us from doing the real shit that will change the world. That’s why I’m saying–“Remember me, because a change is gonna come, and hopefully we’re gonna be all a part of it.’ On the side though, my recent delights-tonight – a series of pin-screen films by Alexieff, a Russian/French animator–absolutely mind blowing. Music-Neil Halstead/Mojave 3, Pigeonhed, Mick HArris, Squarepusher, Tindersticks, Stereolab, Beach Boys (Pet Sounds), Old Floyd and I could go on… Films: Humanite(Bruno Dumont)–this film could change everyone’s P.O.V. on a lot of things, Welles’ The Trial, Vertov’s Man with a Movie Camera (essential for anyone into Documentary), And Errol Morris’ stuff. Reading: Sartre(La Nausee), Susan Sontag(On Photography), and absolutely anything by MArtin Heidegger(this guy is unbelievable, can change a lot of ideals) And that’s all for now, —KEEP IN TOUCH people, cuz the Swervies will be back, and all your friends who laugh at you b/c you listen to Swervedriver will come, and be blown away!! I will get round to Deep Seat soon. It’s a gonna be a feckin’ Leviathan to type!! Before that though, I must head to the cold and windy shores of Aberdeenshire and visit the folks. Which is good ‘cos it means I get to go and listen to ‘Feel so Real’ at the same beach where I first heard it eleven odd years ago. God, that’s a frighteningly long amount of time….

And matchbox 20 is a load of horseshit. I know someone who is succumbing to this crap. You know, that post-alternative Inc. sound, snarly, stupid vocals, “I will, I find, I walk upon….” Yikes. On the postive side I like Swerve/Police/U2/Clash/Ride/Pink Floyd/Beatles/Cocteau Twins/Sugar Peace, funkpoppy

I was rather stunned to see how simple the tune actually is. I am currently at my girlfriends house so i dont get to try the song out with my Telecaster with an amplifier. Ive tried it unplugged and it sounds fine to me. I’m really looking forward to some more Swervedriver tabs to learn, Hairy, do you think there would be any time for you to type up Deap Seat or anything else in your busy life schedule? Sorry im a sad head who just cant get enough of swervie’s guitar wizardry. Anyway people cya later! Bye bye! –Dave (chuffed me)

Date: Wed Apr 3 22:41:50 2002 Name: Erik City/State/Country: RVA Comment: Yeah, I just recently read somewhere that Graham was a brief member of the BJTM. That tripped me out because I’ve been a fan of those guys for years. They sound exactly, and I do mean EXACTLY, like the mid-60’s Brian Jones-era of the Stones, all the sitar, tantric, free love pyschedelia. “Give it Back” and “Strung Out in Heaven” are brilliant records. Ghost, were you ever a fan of Sister Sound, who was based out of Richmond? Eve, from Action Patrol, was their singer/guitarist/songwriter. They remain to be not only one of the best bands Richmond has ever produced, but one of the best bands I have ever known. They were loud, intense, melodic, intricate, jazzy without being pretentious, rockin’ without being boneheads, psychedelic without being plotless, and strikingly unique. I miss them very much. Pete, their bassist, died a few years back and the remaining two members called it quits. I deeply regret that only a select few people here on the East Coast got to experience them. Whenever I saw them perform, which was everytime possible, I felt that I was seeing the future of music unfolding before my eyes. Anyway… Sounds like everyone is listening to good tunes, reading good books, and watching cool flicks. I’ve enjoyed reading the postings today. Hope all is well. -E

Why MiniDisc? Because I HATE jewel boxes!!! I can boogie to work with 10 MiniDiscs in my pocket… try that with 10 CDs. Last book read: As I Lay Dying by W. Faulkner. Last movie seen: haven’t seen a (good) movie in ages… did promise myself to watch 2001: ASO in 2001, which I did, and enjoyed heartily, and I’m thinking of it now, so if that tells you anything… I’m a Taurus, I drive a ’76 Dodge Dart and I’m single (ladies?…)

I am trying to read The Ground Beneath Her Feet by Mr Rushdie. Pretty hard read, but good none the less. Was recommended the new trail of dead cd, which I might add is senbloodysational. My gawd, Husker, Now that takes me aback!! Rediscovered the magic of MBV, Soft as Snow last week too!!! As for the movies, haven’t seen one in months, but saw a cult ‘remember me’ doco on the young talent team the other night… did that ever make it overseas??? Classic, Dannii Minogue as a 10 year old singing fame with a tiny Tina Arena!!! Love the 80’s!!! And those fashions, (bubble skirts and big hair, now they WAS flattering!!)Teehee…

Date: Tue Apr 2 23:56:06 2002 Name: Danny boy City/State/Country: montreal Comment: I think we Swervies should exchange literary, film or other preferences and get to know each other . Spread the good word. Either discreetly or out in the open. (Walked into a local pub the other day, and the bartender had on some swervie. Just then I realized-this world is a small one–lets make it smaller. Peace
Date: Tue Apr 2 23:47:49 2002 Name: danny boy City/State/Country: montreal, can Comment: Hey Kidz, Just wanted to profess my utmost respect for this already legendary band! For all you obviously experienced listeners, you should check out SIANspheric, and my newest discovery–Tindersticks. This band effin rocks! I dare anyone to but their self-titled album and not recognize its sheer masterpiece! Also–Swervies have got to come together one day for a reunion show–(perhaps in Amsterdam)–now, do I have any takers? Peace brothers and sisters!
Date: Tue Apr 2 23:37:27 2002 Name: Erik City/State/Country: RVA Comment: Good to see some other fans of Mr. Drake around here. “Clothes of Sand”, “Time of No Reply” and just about all of the Pink Moon album are stunningly sad tunes, but ultra beautiful nonetheless. Dan’l, yeah a friend of mine saw a Television reunion show a few years ago. They encored with “Don’t Need Your Lovin'” by the Chocolate Watchband. He freaked over that one, (I would too I must say). Ghost, thanks for posting the link to Ron’s band. It’s really cool that he’s playing music with Nora. That girl can sing LAMF. See ya peeps. -E

Date: Tue Apr 2 12:31:10 2002 Name: Dave City/State/Country: SO FAR REACHING! NEVER LOSE THAT FEELING! Comment: If u can type that up pretty soon i will be chuffed to bits…..I listen to the record a lot and i cant even start to figure it out, its to strange trying to tab a song in a odd tuning, and it sounds like there is a lot of things going on during the song, anyway i will look forward to any old school swervie tabs 😀 coz i reckon they are the best 😀 woohoo! –Dave

Date: Tue Apr 2 08:54:08 2002 Name: Hairyhaw City/State/Country: Glasgow Comment: Ian man, you’re a fan of the Drakester??!! Excellent. I can just about play ‘Riverman’ and ‘Time has Told Me’. Had to cheat and get tunings/chords off the net tho. Even so, his guitar was soooo…. well, Nick Drake. I found it almost impossible to recreate. Amazing stuff tho, beautifully intimate. Fester- I agree with you on all accounts with Talk Talk. Good band. Only have a ‘best of..’ Compilation but that was frequently in the CD player a few years back. Christ, that’s another album I’ll have to get re-acquanted with!! Hmm, think I spelt that wrong….
Date: Tue Apr 2 08:25:43 2002 Name: Ian City/State/Country: Glasgow Comment: Handy tuning hints #2. For most Nick Drake songs tune down to.. C(Low),G,C,F,C(up 1 semitone),E and even if you’ve never heard of Nick Drake (get Pink Moon…its beautiful) its magic for finding new chords.

Date: Mon Apr 1 23:10:07 2002 Name: Brian City/State/Country: Comment: Anyone ever try the D,A,E,A,A,E tuning? I don’t know if it has ever been used by Swervedriver, but I’ve had a lot of interesting songs come out of it. As for CW, nothing they have ever done since Ferment and Chrome has quite measured up, but they still fall in my top 20. They aren’t even comparable to Swervedriver though, it’s a completely different feeling. Anyway, I just got the Toshack EP, it was so great to hear that new version of the Hitcher, it felt like the new Swervedriver album! The rest of the songs are alright too, but I had to keep repeating The Hitcher. I’ll have to give it all a better listen to be critical. –B

Date: Mon Apr 1 20:16:19 2002 Name: Fester City/State/Country: Toronto Comment: I agree with Hairy on all accounts with CW. Adam and Eve had some cool moments, but mainly because I dig Talk Talk, and Tim Friese Green (sp?) produced it. At times, Adam and Eve might as well BE Talk Talk, but that’s alright. Hooked up with one of my buddies the other day who’s always got some interesting stuff in his player, and I came away with Clinic. Neat little band, ecspecially if you’re into GBV. Ironically (and this is no joke), he’s just hooked up with a Austrailan lawyer. She’s cool. Even heard of Swervie. The boys really put the whammie on the LDU, that’s for sure. Cheers!
Date: Mon Apr 1 16:56:35 2002 Name: Dave City/State/Country: Deep Seat Comment: Hello Hairy, Have you typed up any Swervie tabs recently? Im kinda needing another fix, preferably in the form of Deap Seat, Never Lose That Feeling (probably the best swervedriver song in existence) and Duress. But Anything in general is better than nothing. Anyway cya later people bye bye…… –Dave
Date: Mon Apr 1 10:21:31 2002 Name: Hairy haw City/State/Country: Glasgoooooey Comment: Hello all, hope everyone’s having a fine day. Indeed, ‘Ferment’ and ‘Chrome’ are rather good. Not really payed much attention to them since those days tho. ‘Texture’ is a wicked tune. God, I’ll have to listen to the albums again, it’s been a while. Hope everyone’s having as much fun with the tunings as I am. I can just about figure out a couple of songs so far, but to honest, I’ve just about written two ditties with that mad D,C,A,D,C,D tuning. It’s got such a great drone to it. Anyway, back to Satansville….
Date: Mon Apr 1 00:55:16 2002 Name: John City/State/Country: Seattle Comment: The Catherine Wheel’s last (and probably final) album, Wishville, admittedly was not up to the quality of their earlier stuff – they clearly were trying too hard to have a commericial hit (and make some money for a change). But the one before that, Adam & Eve, and their first two albums, Ferment and Chrome, are fantastic, IMO. To each his own…. :>
