THEY ARE AMAZING; nothing else out there compares. I wish Swervedriver would go on tour soon, ’cause I’m feeling a need to experience them live again.

It was released by Restless Records. The CD number is 7_70019-2. If you can’t find it at e-bay or at Restless, e-mail me at trisol@surfnetinc.com I think I may be able to ‘find’ one for you ;)***** Hey Zach, I still have the blue long sleeve T from that Swervie tour, which is what made me type it. I don’t really wear it, since I consider it somewhat of a “collectors” item now 🙂 Dream Well Swervies!

Date: Fri Aug 30 10:40:31 2002 Name: Ian City/State/Country: Glasgow Comment: I got to Glasgow Green on the Saturday which was part of the Leeds/Reading thing even though I was fuul of the shitty cold. Scotland – the only fucking place in the world where you get a cold in the summer. Anyway, caught Trail of the Dead finaly and they were bloody marvelous if a bit shambolic but I suppose thats where they get they’re name from. Also caught the end of Slipnot (erk), highly entertaining! Anyway i’ve got a favour to ask the good people of Swervedom. Some of you might remember a program on telly in the early 80’s called Monkey. It was a Japanees series about Monkey, God of the Monkeys who was bannished from Heaven for annoying the gods and he had a mate called Pixie. Im not tripping by the way, I stopped all that when i was 20, I need the lyrics for an acoustic gig we’re doing as we’re covering it in the style of Neil Young….if that makes any sence atall. Anyway, any help would be much, much appreciated.

Date: Fri Aug 30 01:05:02 2002 Name: Paulo City/State/Country: The bar where I lose heart Comment: Did anyone here go to Reading/Leeds last weekend? Hurts to say I lost the chance to see Mercury Rev, BRMC (the American Jesus), Spiritualized, Breeders, Death Cab, the Strokes and the Foos, what else? think Jane’s Addiciton were lined up too, well…better forget it…unfavourable circumstances held me back once more, but next year i vowed to be there even if they pick Britney Spears, N’Sync and Backstreet Boys for headliners . And I’m seriously considering showing up for All Tomorrow’s Party (April, init?) depending on the lineup (though i’m not sure if they’ll ever throw another of those anytime soon…)//New old stuff by Pavement comin out in October: double DVD with all the video clips, 1-hour interview and two full live shows recorded just for the truly enchanted fans//Been spinning Dove’s “Last Broadcast” these days and, yeah, it’s beautiful, gotta listen to it coupla more times in order to get the whole picture there//Some other good songs worth checking out at bakedbean.net are ‘Chinese Star in Metal Box’ and ‘full stride’ by The Pee Wee Fist, ‘Magnolia’ by Tristan da Cunha (creative trio, but badly recorded, maybe some studio wizardry would fix it), the only song avaible (forgot the name) by StarLab//Swirlies out on a “mini-tour” across the UK starting Septtember 7, you lucky Brits do not miss out (btw, i mentioned the song “chris r.” down there somewhere but i meant the song ‘upstairs’ off “What to Do About Them”, beautiful tune).//”Rocky and Inez” and “My Valentine” by Your Girl for the Night are among the top 5 on my home-job commute list right now, beautiful tunes, wonderfully recordred, don’t sound demo at all, if i ran a nice indie label i’d sign these guys right away…//nuff (love this abbreviation) said…cya

I don’t usually hunt down records; I kinda just let them cross my path. This crossed my path last Friday – I can’t get enough of it. Are they aping SWD or not? Discuss!

Had a Rain Parade record, but like a lot of my stuff, it “disappeared” during a stint with 3 roommates – Opals’ “Happy Nightmare Baby” is the shiznit. Saw Mazzy Star around She Hangs Brightly… ye gods that was ages ago. Took a lot of mental effort to remember that one 🙂
Date: Thu Aug 29 01:43:07 2002 Name: Zach City/State/Country: LA Comment: Sundog, I had that exact T-Shirt from the Mezcal Head tour: “Jesus ama los swervies.” Dark blue with the white face. Cool stuff. I’ll look for the split. Cheers, Z.
Date: Thu Aug 29 01:11:45 2002 Name: Sundog City/State/Country: Chi-Town Comment: Hey Dan, if you are a Opal/Mazzy Star fan, are you a Rain Parade fan as well? BTW, I saw Mazzy Star at the Metro on the “Tonight so that I might see” tour (Were you there?) and what an awesome show that was. Top ten bands? I think that changes day to day for me..lol. I’ll give you 10 of my current favorites although these aren’t really in any specific order 1) SWD 2) Rush 3) Univers Zero 4) King Crimson 5) Happy Family 6) Don Cabellero 7) Trans Am 8) GSYBE 9)Steve Tibbets 10) Ride BTW Zach, did you get the Toshack EP, “Everyday Rock’N Roll is saving my Life” ? It’s excellent. There is also a split single coming out (I think September) with Toshack Highway and Sianspheric. Remember, “Jesus loves the Swervies” 😉

Give me anything Adam, and I get that feeling. duel, blowin’ cool, son of jaguar e and expressway..they all do it for me, but when i am in a quiet mood, everyday rock’n’roll is saving my life and the acoustic hitcher which to me they are like perfect songs, couldn’t get better with exception of several other swervedriver songs there are too many to list.

SwerveDriver has been a huge influence to me from the studio work and the only one show where I was forever slayed. Saddening was the just read news of the ’62 JazzMaster Ebay auction and of not being able to see SD live again anytime soon, if ever. Is it possible to purchase or barter for video footage from SD’s show[s]? [dpistoll-at-no-spam-hotmail] Thank you [SD] for all the great music !! Cheers.
Date: Tue Aug 27 04:25:12 2002 Name: Dave City/State/Country: St.Helens Comment: I dont think Swervedriver need to come back and record a new album. I just think they need to do one huge tour and play a setlist of music comprising of Raise, Mezcal Head, ESR, And 99ThDream. As well as some b-sides. Just hearing a wide selection of swervie tunes live would be absolutley amazing. If anything they should go out with a big band and do a FINAL tour. Cya Later!
Date: Mon Aug 26 18:52:47 2002 Name: Dan City/State/Country: Chic-a-go-go Comment: John C from NYC – well said, my friend. Let’s hope SWD do not perceive themselves in the same dire need of riding what little promise hair-metal comebacks hold… the lack of communication from the SWD camp is what holds SWD’s promise, IMO. Better to burn out than fade away?

I’m still, constantly, turning others on to your music. A US tour again would be most appreciated. Swervedriver = one of the best guitar driven, melodic, heavy-as-balls tune makers there is. Raise and ESR are way cool. Good luck to Swervedriver and may they come-back soon, hell Poison and Ratt are doing it, why not SD? Thanks, JC

Date: Tue Aug 20 12:57:52 2002 Name: ZigZag City/State/Country: City-O-Chi Comment: A friend and I just happened to be sitting in the vip area, about 10 feet from him (by chance, no lie). It was 2 bands before he played. Someone sitting next to us knew him, and after they saw me with our CD in my hand, they said theyd introduce me. I was like “wow!!!”, but somehow still hesitantly I went with them. The people went through a sphiel about how they liked my band (keep in mind I never met them, I’m sure just being very helpful to me…), so J. kind of smiled in this cool vibe way. I handed him the CD and let him know that I’ve appreciated his music for many years. He still smiled in this kind of cool way, like he understood the plight of the modern-day musician (we all knew he surely did). It was so loud in there, plus I didnt really want to take up more of his time (as he was enjoying the show, also he was up soon), so I nodded and walked off. A friends band (Moreno) played with them that night (theyre also big fans of J. and Dino J.). God, I was so jealous in a cool way, gave them big props later.

Date: Mon Aug 19 22:47:17 2002 Name: ZigZag City/State/Country: Chi-Guy Comment: I had the unpleasant oppurtunity to meet Wayne Coyne a couple years ago when they played at The Metro. Since we play there quite a bit, I knew the booking guys, one of which asked me if Id like to hang out backstage and give him one of our CD’s. I said sure, but when I was back there and introduced myself (and said I really loved their music, bla bla bla), he was just a terrible pr1ck!!! He even wouldnt accept our cd..oh well, right? I just left him be, and between that show and the next, he ended up getting in a huge fistfight with his roadie. Hehehe. Definitely what I would have expected him to be, actually 180 degrees off. Still great music…I suppose.

Apparently they’re opening for Beck, than they’re actually joining Beck on stage for his show. Flaming Lips = Musical Gods. I understand that Swervie opened for Beck when they toured through Austraila. The only reason why THEY didn’t join Beck on stage is because they were too busy blowing him off of it.;)

I also think he did an album between medicine & amnesia, but I forgot what it was called. I remember someone telling me it had recordings on it that he did as a little kid with a cassete recorder. Anyone know of that one? Well, either way, looking forward to new medicine as well!

First of the top of my head has to be 1.Sunny Day Real Estate(I’m surprised they haven’t been mentioned yet) 2.Catherine Wheel 3.Deftones 4.Swervedriver 5.Into Another(evolved out of the NYHC scene and tore it up for 3 releases) 6.Bjork 7.Doves 8.Morphine 9.Soundgarden 10.(this is my ghost in the closet)Toad the Wet Sprocket. Although he himself wasn’t a band, I would have to say John Coltrane as another. I also like Elbow, Coldplay, Radiohead(oops), Porcupine Tree and Tori Amos quite a bit!

So I spent alot of the time on the beach in Zandpoort just out side A’dam. Good coffee shop there called Yanks (?!) which had a Red Indian type theme. Got Silver Haze and Super Polm from there, mmmmm. Theres a race track there too and they had the F2s on but it was too dear. (booo) Also a good one in A’dam is Hill Street Blues and you can leave a mention on the walls there. Some folk have left a message with a joint stuck to the ceiling. I met up with some good friends who have spent the last 4 months traveling round Europe so it was totaly exalent to see them again. Right! Top 10 – 1/ Swervios 2/ Neil Young 3/ Flaming Lips 4/ Trail of the Dead 5/ Jim O ‘Rourke (new entry) 6/ Rollin Stones 7/ Radiohead (oop! controversial) 8/ The Bees 9/ Toshack 10/ Nirvana (ahh, the memories). See youz soon!

Date: Tue Aug 13 23:43:06 2002 Name: Paulo City/State/Country: in a place that’s soft as snow but warm inside Comment: Alright, I voted four out of ten slots, and those were truly tough. If you look at my ballot you’ll see hanging chads for each of them, which are a clear sign of my hesitation (Royboy, I got the headache too). I voted for Pearl Jam coz everyone had picked their black sheep, otherwise I think PJ Harvey would be the natural choice(that album “Dry” is simply PERFECT, even its title is perfect)…or maybe GBV…perhaps Medicine…well, anyway, here are the other (way easier to choose) 6.: PAVEMENT; 5: THE JESUS & MARY CHAIN: how could I ever forget that JAMC gig at a local venue back in 1990, they were touring in support of “Automatic”, I was completely unaware of what I was about to sse and hear on that night…when the Reid bros loomed up out of that dense mist, slammed on those hellish distortion pedals and started playing, it felt like a wake-up call: “wakey, wakey, Paul, the 80s are GONE!”; 4: DINOSAUR JR.; 3.PIXIES: Stop and think about that live take of “Heaven” off the BBC sessions, I mean, listen to it once more and pay attention to the vocals. Can you grasp that? God (will) save Frank Black…; 2. MY BLOODY VALENTINE; 1. SWD. That’s it, i guess. Let’s now hope that the ongoing decade bring us as many rock luminaries as the 90s did…

I’ve spent many-a-night drinking, smoking, and ‘doing other things’, listening to them and really just enjoying the shit out of ’em. They seem to be a band that reeally loves life, and that’s what i love about ’em. I had no idea they were seen as ‘retro shite’. Fuck that. God Fodder, indeed….Hmmm–I’ve got a bass……….Who’s another?

I like ’em for the fact that they are solid, down to earth tunes but most people write ’em off as retro shite. Their choice I suppose. I only know 2 or 3 people out of all the folks I know that will admit to liking them so you can kinda understand my caution!!

Pavement, 8. Spiritualized, 9. Jimi Hendrix, 10. and yes, New Order…although, you could rotate U2, Talk Talk, Love and Rockets, The Verve, Cocteau Twins, Paul Weller, etc. through that tenth slot. Can’t forget Bob Marley either. Or The Verve. I should stop now…Good to see you’re still out there Erik. Hope everything is going well:). Cheers!
Date: Tue Aug 13 00:32:22 2002 Name: paulo City/State/Country: where songs do grow and flowers can sing Comment: Ok, I got a top five that was kinda easy to spot, I think they’ve kind of crystalized already as the (rock)muscal part of my soul, and then I got another five that’s sort of fluid, but still quite discernible. And I’ve got to say they’re are all “bands of my youth” (as Dave put it) so they’re mainly from the 90s. That’s not to say I don’t like the older bands tho, there is anarray of classic bands (Beatles, Stones, Who, Zeppelin (a tiny bit), Steely Dan (a WHOLE lot), Pistols, Smiths…) that I love but it’s a differenfeeling…So I might start at the bottow with: 10. PEARL JAM/SOnic Youth — Ok, Pearl Jam’s my black sheep, and a black sheep here means commercial success. If anyone should ask me: chose ONE band from the mainstream, I would definitely chose them, coz they’re a true rock band with talented musicians and a inspired leadsinger (how many Eddie Vedders are chancing their throat on MTV right now? for cry-s-sake…). TUnes like “Pilate”, “Dissident”, “Animal” are ther to prove it. It’s funny how long it took for me to start listeing to them, actually I only discovered Pearl Jam last year (I just couldn’t stand watching “Alive” a million times per day back in the “grunge” days…)9: STEREOLAB/VELOCITY GIRL. Yeah, velocity girl may seem preposterous here too, but there’s just something about that “Copacetic” album that gets me ina sentimental mood (again the “band of youth” thing).8:RIDE/PALE SAINTS: two bands or just one?; 7.LILYS/SWIRLIES: I think i’ve said enough of Swirlies but if you still doubt that Damon Tutunjian’s one of the high priests of lo-fi beauty, then listen to “His Life of Academic Freedom” or “Chris R.”, or “Pony”. I guess I’ve made my point here about LILYS too, but i might nevertheless reiterate that “Better Can’t…” is a magnificent album (the first version), I mean, try just these bit parts for melodic perfection (track 7 [3:10 – 3:22], track 9 [2:34 -3:15 man this is just DIVINE], track 11 [1:47 -2:15]). I don’t know what kind of superior inspiration he summoned up to write those songs, i’m still flabbergasted after all these years…//Ok, now we get to the top five and I think i’ll split this gobbledygook in two….bye now

While the top three are fairly constant, the rest fluctuate on a month to month basis, hence the reason Slowdive and Nick Drake ain’t there this month as I’ve been listening to a bit more Smiths & MBV lately.

Very Cool place. Also the Anne Frank house is supposed to be worth a look, but I didn’t manage to get there. A cruise through the Red Light District is a must, unless you are w/ a lady friend, then you might use your own discrection! I hope you like Heineken, cause that is the main beer there! Have a blast, but keep your a level head. Also, they damn near interogate you at the airport there, when you leave. I was just passing through there and was given the third degree almost! Cheers!

I jammed with a guy years and years ago named Chris who could have turned out to be swervie, judging from the way he played guitar… this was prolly 1988-89. I know lots of Chris’ though, including the frontman of my band…

Date: Sun Aug 4 15:42:55 2002 Name: Dan E. City/State/Country: Kansas City (for now) Comment: Hi all, I’m a bit new here. I’ve looked at this board before, but have never posted. So I just read through the last months worth of posts, and I wondering about the swervestock. I saw the message in the news section, but is swervestock not a website that you can look at? I’m wanting to get ahold of some of the material on there, since it is a bit hard to find. I’ve looked here in my local shops and they don’t even have swervedriver anymore. To vdub: Are you really in KC? Does that mean that I’m not the only person in the midwest driving a VW and listening to SWD? Wow, that is hard to believe? Also, I know that this might be a sore topic, as it is in some other boards, but I’m wondering if anyone here knows a good source of live boots for SWD. I just got one the other day on ebay and it is great, but it causes you to want more. I would love to somehow get the only SWD show that I saw, at the Middle East in Cambridge, MA with HUM as the main event. I think that was in ’97 or ’98, not sure. SWD was great and many people seemed to leave during the HUM set. That may have been due to the trains stopping early in Boston. Lastly, for those of you in the Boston area, I have to plug a friends band that is really great. The band is “Medium” and along the lines of Kyuss, old Soundgarden and a tinge of the Cult. Very good players. The guitarist used to be in Overcast and my pal, the drummer, was subbing in Shadows Fall last year. www.mediumband.com cheers!

And ” wrong tube”, and “tree chopped down”, and “His Love Just Washed Away”, man, I was definitely lucky to see them live at the Middle East in early 2000, the place was packed and the vibe aws great (they seem to be locals there). They’ve got a true style of their own (it’s there since “What to Do…”), and the noise thing is part of it, and I love it. I just want more songs and that’s why the fake tracks upset me. As they would put it, “CHIMP ROCK FOREVAH”!
