Date: Thu Oct 31 13:28:15 2002 Name: Fester City/State/Country: Torontobourne Comment: OK, knowing there’s a fair amount of aussies on the board I thought I’d come on and rant a little blurb on my soon to be austraila connection. First of, we Canadians love Austraila, and in many ways, the two countries have a lot in common. You have massive amounts of umpopulated tracks of land, we have massive amounts of unpopulated tracks of land; you produce a good chunk of the directors, actors, super-models that give hollywood any credibility, as do we (with a slant towards comedy. If anything, we’re WAY funnier than you guys); and lastly, but not leastly, we both love to drink our faces off. Now, I guess this can be said about most countries – You know, the ol’ “hey, I’m English and I can drink you under the table mate”, “oh yeah, well I’m Irish, and I can drink YOU under the table mate” thing. Here in Canada, we don’t use the word “mate”, and generally slap anybody who does. Anyways, I digress. Long story short: My best friend is marrying an aussie and they’re moving thousands of miles away, over a whole ocean, to Melbourne (sp?). This is frustrating. I’ve known this guy for 18 years, and then some hottie with accent happens by and its all over. Just like that. No more best friend. And what makes it even more frustrating is that there is more than enough hotties here in Canada (see above). What the fuck? This Saturday is her going away party. She has to head over there now, sponsor my friend, and then he goes over in the new year. For the record, my friend loves the swervies, beer, and coral reefs. An Austrailan-Canadian is going to be one deadly combination. Happy Halloween and Cheers!

Christian Saville (now in monster Movie), the second guitarist of the band, is nowadays apparently (not 100% sure of this) the webmaster of the Finland’s national football team’s fan site (found at http://www.finland-football.net)… Beats me how this all has come about, but I reckon that Finnish player Aki Riihilahti ( of Crystal Palace) might have something to do with this…

As a matter of fact, Neil Halstead is still doing incredible things with Mojave 3 and his solo project. But check this out–if it is day time out there, no matter where you are, go out to the local record store and order a CD entitled (& YET & Yet) by a Canadian band called Do MAke Say Think. If they can’t get it, order it online from Constellation records (Godspeed’s label) and though they don’t sound like Godspeed this band will blow your goddamn minds people. Take my words for it…this instrumental band (and bands in this vein) is THE band of the future. Trust me…their three albums are great, but this one changed the way I heard music. Absolutely brilliant work. Peace

Theyre pretty obscure, and the only time I could find anything from them online (keep in mind, I have 7 of their purchased cd’s) was the old Napster days. They are the sound I hear in my head. Truely awe-inspiring. Can people suggest me some songs to download from Kazza. I’ve been trying to locate Loveless and Souvlaki but I can’t get the latter from amazon.co.uk. I really like the spacey songs best. I know that it not the least bit Swervie like, but these guys can play. If you haven’t heard them, it’s like Yes meets Radiohead, meets The Alan Parsons Project. Sort of like a poppy King Crimson. I haven’t heard the new release yet, but a friend says that it one the best releases he has heard this year, and this is statement and a half from this person, since he listens to damn near everthing that comes out, and is also a drummer! Unfortunately, someone in a bunny costume kicked out one of the cords on the stack by mistake and the Lips had to cut their set short. However, they were also Beck’s band for his set, so it ended up being full Lips anyway. Wierd seeing them crank out “Loser” and “Two Turn Tables…”, but done to perfection nonetheless. Have to say, I have a new respect for Beck. He was really, really funny. Wayne is great. He’s the Willy Wonka of music right now, and the Lips’ show is Magical Mystery Tour done right. Check out www.flaminglips.com for more. Awesome site. Has plenty of music and vids available. As usual, after a good show, it just makes me pine for the swerves. Miss ’em aweful ma! Cheers!

Jeremy, Will and Nate are currently recording new material, that will fall under the moniker of “The Fire Theft”. So far they don’t seem to have a label, unless that hasn’t been devulged yet! At anyrate, this release will no doubt wake the dead and blow some minds. I personally can’t wait. Should be amazing! Cheers!

I picked it up and went to turn the volume up and the knob fell off! Glad to hear you are enjoying yours, I play a USA Strat. I would like to try a Godin LGXT or LGX SA with the synth/midi output, big bucks for one of those. Have fun.

Anyone know the lyrics to Electric 77? I swear I can hear “bagel line satellite.” Ah, UK drawl – where have ye gone?

Now, I fucking hate the NME, but seriously, how fucking great is that!!!

I now have a warm inner-contenment of my life being complete. Seen Swervie twice, Mogwai and Trail of Dead!! Yahs!!!! Mogwai rocked, dispite there 45min set being cut down to 30mins due to tech diffs. They played, My Father and something else (too much damn brail cells depleted due to beer…) they still rocked my world!! Along with Trail of Dead who win the best live act award for the day!!! Yeeeeeaaahhhh!!!! The worse for the day.. Oasis!! I think they were walking a VERY fine line as last time they were here, Liam had to go to court due to some foul mouth behviour… Ahhh, a god day all round. Honourable mention to Dirty Three and MAchine Gun Fellatio and locals speedstar!!!! Anyways, if anybody was there, what was Mogwais only other song????

Date: Mon Oct 14 16:14:42 2002 Name: royboy City/State/Country: bflo, ny Comment: Dave — I know what you mean about that hollow feel…. I think it has to do with how incredibly long the scale length is, and that groovy tremelo device…. It’s good to hear that you two are getting on nicely. Check this out–with a light distortion on, hold the trem arm loosely, and shake like crazy with open strings. It’s the weird noises at the beginning of “Land of the Lost” !!! cheers all….
Date: Mon Oct 14 14:51:16 2002 Name: Dave City/State/Country: St.Helens UK Comment: Mike, The Jazzmaster is a totally different beast compared to the strat or the tele. It’s got some kind of hollow feel to it. Its got a much better tone than the tele and strat, I think it sounds better clean than with distortion. I still really love the other geetars, I think the jazzmaster is my favourite though. Im amazed by it. I am not too keen on the rhytmn/lead switch, I always leave it on the lead circuit, It sounds much better that way. I think so anyway. In many words……IM MADE UP! YEAH!! Thanks for asking. Do you have a jazzer?

We cranked out some good, new tunes. I also compulsively bought a ’65 SG, very sweet. I’m staying busy as hell with Dragstrip, but I am having the chance to check out some good shows that are coming through my area. Shellac is playing Thursday night and the Mooney Suzuki is playing Friday night. Saturday, my band is playing. Should be a pretty rockin’ weekend, (if it ever gets here… this is a damn long Monday). Anyway, I hope everyone is well. Especially you, Fester. Sounds like things could be better. Take care all. -E

Among those playing are The Streets, Morrissey, Oasis, Mogwai, International Noise Conspiracy, Dirty Three and Mercury Rev. Is this worth the ninety odd Aussie dollars (approx. $45us etc) ‘Course I’d like to see Swervedriver on the Big Day Out lineup in our 2003 summer. Good way to get back into the live stuff, but freakin’ hot though! Lets leave this board open to all sorts I say. (not that i pay any of those racist undertones. Alex-Misery does love its company. TW pulling fast ones left and right I hate to say. Lil’ Fester just talking to himself and walking around with the whole fucking thing on my back some weekends. Get my name called about 200 hundred times before 7pm, mostly to tie shoelaces and wipe noses. Mucho frustrating. Also, looks like the love affair with no-bullshit Fester is over and now a more “yes ma’am, yes sir” Fester is required. Another words, a total lack of faith. I think they’re afraid that’ll teach golden boy how to bark a little too loudly. BTW, I think TW and I are fighting, although I’m not sure. If we are, it’s because she knows she’s been full of shit lately and has already predetermined my reaction. OR, that blissfull, La-La Land, “I can’t hear you”, “I told you so”, “If you’ve worked 14 days in a row, it’s your fault”, short term memory of hers is working in overdrive. I prefer the other form of messageboard because its in chronological order, earliest to the top and latest at the bottom, which makes more sense. Rather than reading backwards like on this board. Date: Thu Oct 10 11:40:49 2002 Name: Bertrand City/State/Country: Belgium Comment: I’m not sure a regulated message board would be a good idea. I mean, that would kill this familial way of talking about our favourite band, separating it in different topics is a kind of I want to talk in my subject with people interested in my subject. What the hell. Here we see every messages and that’s what’s great. Eventually, getting us registered to avoid intrusions but certainly not creating some sort of impersonal structure. This structure is a caracteristic of this site, and that makes it so enjoyable. Keep it going without taking care of some strange fellows that don’t even deserve we think about them.

Date: Thu Oct 10 03:25:19 2002 Name: Dave City/State/Country: St.Helens Comment: I wish these skin heads would sod off. Look this is SWERVEDRIVER they have nothing to do with SKREWDRIVER! Hey (the swervedriver fans) this is precisely the reason I said to start up a proper messageboard, because you have to register a user name and the administrator can ban any un wanted registered users. Also registering a username prevents those 1 time posters who post garbage and then leave. I would be more than happy to be a moderator, with art as the administrator of course. Im sure some other recent visitors could be a moderator too. What does everyone think? just check out this board. http://discussion.9inchnails.net or www.nirvana2.com. These are highly maintained messageboards with rules and regulations. I really think swervedriver.com could do with one. (and perhaps a makeover from the green tinted theme? no offense art hehe) Also if its any consolation Im studying visual design and web design in University. So I am convinced I am up to the job of looking after this site. I say this because Art isnt here this often, and im assuming he is a busy guy indeed.

Date: Mon Oct 7 05:05:48 2002 Name: guy h City/State/Country: mus hill london Comment: hi all i managed to get along to adams show on thursday. it was in this cellar bar which was completely empty when i got there. first on was some godawful band who played just intrumentals. next on was adam. the place was pretty packed, but i suspect a lot of people weren’t actually there to see adam as they were all talking thru his set. anyway as you may suspect, it was excellent. he started off with a TH song (sorry forget the name)then did the other jesus, sci flyer, a new song called “the devil may care” (excellent), the hitcher and a mott the hoople song. then some bloke in a poncho came and sat on the side of the stage hassling him for a go on his guitar. adam asked him what he would play and he said “fuck you”…. “excelent, how does that go..?” so the bloke got on stage and actually wasn’t that bad…. anyway, adam carried on with just one more – an excellent version of “last train….” it was cool to see him play in such an intimate venue. there were a few problems with the sound and the crowd wasn’t that great, but who cares really?? i went up to him to get a bit of info for you lot on what’s happening with swervedriver. he looked a bit non plussed at my first lame question (journalism aint my strong point and i was a bit pissed by that stage) but when i asked him about swervedriver getting together and recording/playing some more gigs he said “never say never”……. BUT did say that he was potentially planning to record “a rock and roll/guitar record” with jimmy. cannae wait….. anyway thats all folks…. guy

Date: Thu Oct 3 21:33:05 2002 Name: Danno City/State/Country: KC, but not for much longer! Comment: est, I agree, Sigur Ros is totally cool, but I was just saying that for those that haven’t heard them. I am mad at myself however, because in 2000, I saw Radiohead on the tent tour in Belgium, and Sigur Ros was the opening band. Not knowing who they were at the time, I got there late, and missed their whole set, only to find out the next year, who that band was that I missed! Stupid or what?
Date: Thu Oct 3 17:49:41 2002 Name: est City/State/Country: Toronto Comment: Yeah, Fester, if I hear anything I’ll let you know, Sigur Ros are worth more than a listen Danno! They are amazing, as for Interpol my friend went and saw them at the weekend but wasn’t blown away by them, guess they’re the next best thing? I have yet to hear anything. e.
Date: Thu Oct 3 17:00:39 2002 Name: Danno City/State/Country: KC Comment: Sigur Ros is cool. Sort of like a more mellow Radiohead. They are from Iceland, but apparently the language that he is singing in is either an old folk version of Icelandic, or a totally bullshit, made up language. As an example of the latter, the recorded lyrics are totally different that the ones he is singing live. Rather odd, but supposedly they put on a great show. He also plays his guitar w/ a violin bow, like J. Page did during the Led Zep days. At any rate, they are worth at least one listen. I also have been hearing good things about Interpol! Anyone heard these guys at all? They are getting compared to Joy Division alot. Cheers!

Date: Wed Oct 2 17:08:08 2002 Name: Fester City/State/Country: Toronto Comment: boy of roy – You know me and the Lips. The total bitch is that it was sold out on presales almost immediately! Sometimes, the internet can kiss my ass. So like, no tickets for Fester…so far. Working the connections like a bastard though. Hell, the scalpers may actually get my money for this one. Beck is Beck, but the Lips is King. The last time I saw them was at the Opera House and they were number 2 right behind the boys in terms of best shows. I guess that was about 6 or 7 years ago. They skipped over us for Bulletin, so I can’t them pass this time around. Est, if you’ve got any leads, that would be much appreciated. Cheers y’all. Good to see Eric again.:)
Date: Wed Oct 2 15:32:10 2002 Name: royboy City/State/Country: bflo Comment: Yeah, Beck is kind of a twat… A very rich twat. Sigur Ros. Aren’t they, like, Swedish? And mellow? i don’t think I’ve ever heard their music.

Date: Tue Oct 1 15:33:21 2002 Name: JoeT. City/State/Country: Chester, New York USA Comment: Is it me, or is that band “Counting Crows” very dillwad-ish? They remind me of the HORDE festival – lot’s of “pseudo-alterna” bands, listened to by asshole-ish skin-deep “fake cool” people. The Spin Doctors were a dill-dick “fake cool” band as well, no? Anyway, the point of this post is…….to rant. Dave, very cool that you got a Jazzmaster. Rainy, ringy tones for all…..YAY!!!!!!! Play an Emin9 chord just for me. Speaking of which, I actually told my wife that her parents were mellower than mine because they were coming up in the late 1960s/early 1970s and “they had more open A9 chords and stuff back then…” She looked at me like I was crazy. I CAN’T STOP!!!! Good to here about the record companies. They keep pushing bad music, reason enough to make them pay!! Hey Ian, is Scotland all cool and stuff with music? Like, could the Cocteau Twins acutally have broke the charts in that musical climate? You probably don’t get as much boy-band stupidity over there. Also, that “Several small furry species of animals…” piece by Pink Floyd is probably very annoying to Scots, right?

Date: Tue Oct 1 12:04:24 2002 Name: d City/State/Country: ny Comment: this is sooo good. Record companies are settling a cd price fixing lawsuit and have to pay back money they ripped off…”The companies did not admit guilt in the alleged price-fixing scheme, but they will pay $67.4 million in cash to consumers who got ripped off buying overpriced CDs between 1995 and 2000. They will also distribute $75.5 million worth of CDs to nonprofit organizations and schools. (The teachers undoubtedly will be grateful for free copies of Eminem’s latest album.)”
