Date: Fri Feb 28 01:53:44 2003 Name: dan City/State/Country: michigan Comment: i know it’s about a month late. i just started checking out this list and was going back over some old posts. about the saddest swervedriver song, yeah, i agree with the many, it’s deep seat. i can remember my freshman year in college listening to that song millions of times with headphones, on my bed, actually staring at the ceiling. here’s the thing about that solo: when i saw swervedriver live, adam did not seem interested in singing. it almost seemed like it was a chore and he couldn’t wait to get back to his guitar. i think he’s a great singer, but you have to admit he’s even more articulate and expressive on a guitar. i imagine, when i listen to deep seat and duress that he takes expression as far as he can go with words and melodies and then steps back and says it for real with guitar, expressing the emotions in a more accurate language. and with deep seat and duress, that effect is heightened by the use of the wah pedal, which resembles the human voice, only in this case it’s more like a human wail than speach. the solo on deep seat…i remember coming back to my room after a break up, turning that thing up as loud as it could go, and just putting my head down on my desk and everything in me being perfectly expressed in that music. also, the toshack song “i’ve lost the feeling” is sad for me because adam’s such a brilliant musician and he sounds so dissillusioned with music. as for the guy looking for the best swervedriver song for radio play, i’ve always thought last day on earth was the best single they ever did. the other jesus, and 99th dream come to mind as well. i’m still looking for people to trade for adam solo boots. dan

Date: Tue Feb 25 02:32:56 2003 Name: senor Nutt City/State/Country: University of Northern Iowa, USA Comment: Hey, I’ve never posted on this site but felt I should start. I’ve been a Swervie fan for a little while but it has taken quite a while to get my hands on anything by them. I bought Mezcal Head years ago but really didn’t listen to it until a few years ago…probably between OK Computer and Kid A by Radiohead. I think it is a real shame that Swervedriver didn’t get a lot of attention. I still love the “shoe-gazing” and “alternative” music eras. Much better than half the crap on the radio today. I do however like the new Coldplay album. What the hell happened when bands like Swervie can’t make it big time and wastes of space like Avril Lavigne get grammy nominations. What the hell is going on. Ok, I’m done ranting now. Before I go, I’ve got my own radio show on Campus…what swervie songs do you guys want me to play?

Date: Sun Feb 9 15:13:30 2003 Name: Johnny City/State/Country: San Diego, CA Comment: The following is proof that I have gone off the proverbial deep end. I thought you Swervies might find it interesting though… Mezcal Head (This short story was written using the titles of Swervedriver songs to weave a story. Enjoy!) “A change is gonna come.” She muttered in the city., continuing to rave down. “If we don’t catch the last train to satanville, we’ll never learn.” She added. I looked around me, weighed my options. In my time, only the stellar caprice could have saved me. “How does it feel to look like candy?” I asked her, squinting in the sunlight. “It’s just my zephyr. I guess you could say I’m flawed.” She replied as nonchalantly as butterscotch. I was melting. She weaves a tender trap and I could see over her scheme., although I was slipping through like sand. As I stared into her flaming heart I knew one thing: she’s beside herself. I issued her a single finger salute and walked to the docks. The good ships had just been bubbling up from the sea. The Birds sang above me, daftly avoiding the planes over the skyline. As my hands grabbed at my face, I felt utterly sandblasted. Was this my fate? I feel so real. I am superman living out my 99th dream. Plan 7 star satellite 10, right? Or am I just the other jesus riding my magic bus from Mars? Maelstrom. Pure maelstrom. Such duress in the afterglow of love. I kicked around with Harry and Maggie and we decided to laze it up, mainly to prevent any oncoming duel. “Lead me where you dare!” I screamed to the heavens. It was only then that I reached Andalucia. I watched the sci-flyer take a deep seat to my emotions, and all I could feel was the stimulini and the pile up. I wished it was my last day on earth. But you find it everywhere. It’s completely inevitable. From the volcano trash to the zedheads who take the wrong treats, to you, you never lose that feeling. I hate your kind more than I hate a homeless homecoming. The deep twang of my guitar makes me realize how the year of the girl was really for seeking heat. Had I ridden my snowmobile all through the MM Abduction? Had I forgotten to kill the superheroes? “Bring me the head of the fortune teller!” I screamed into the icy night sky, slowly depressing the ejector seat reservation. This is the director’s cut of your life and all you can think about is how cars converge on paris all day long. We must be living in the land of lost emotions, riding a motorbike on the expressway, blasting our Electric 77, while we didn’t realize the whole time that we were rolling over the son of mustang ford, annihilating all dreams he had for his son of jaguar e. Why say yeah to them? I know about chateau in virginia waters, I know how the Juggernaut rides again. I know all of these things. But through it all, I can just scrawl and scream and pray for a sequel. After all, we are behind the scenes of the sounds and the times…93 million miles from the sun…and counting. But whenever I get lost, whenever I can’t find my 99th dream, I just remember one simple fact…In these times…and all times…I am the swervedriver. You can’t believe it’s over?

Date: Sat Feb 8 13:51:50 2003 Name: james City/State/Country: brooklyn Comment: Dudes, you should definitely post any articles or photos from any live shows past or present. i really can’t get into zwan at all but I never ever got into the pumpkins or chavez either.
Date: Sat Feb 8 12:02:33 2003 Name: Zach City/State/Country: L.A. Comment: Yeah, Mike, that’s what I heard, although, I must admit that I like Adam’s version about one hundred times better! I haven’t given Zwan’s album enough of a listen to truly judge it yet, but I think I’m kinda dissapointed. I was a HUGE fan of Chavez, and I thought with Matt Sweeny in the band, Zwan would sound something like that. I guess a few more listens will let me know if I like it. cheers, Zach.
Date: Sat Feb 8 04:37:47 2003 Name: J.D. City/State/Country: Canada Comment: I also have a wide array of old live mp3s. I may put up a swd site of some kind soon if there is any demand. I have a dual processor system with linux ready to serve. Although my bandwidth will be limited. I know that there is not much swervedriver news going around, but even so.. swervie.com still doesn’t have lyrics or the old php bug fixed.. I have a lot of pics and information archived, i just gotta muster up some ambition. anyway, I’m looking forward to the new toshack split.
Date: Sat Feb 8 03:04:57 2003 Name: Dan City/State/Country: Bradford UK Comment: I wouldnt say satansville is sad . But I cant figure out whether this is a murder song (last verse) or is it suicide…. I know what Ian means about Deep Seat…it just sounds as though the guitars have been ripped out of Adam and Jims souls and put on record
Date: Sat Feb 8 01:27:09 2003 Name: Mike City/State/Country: Boston, Ma. Comment: Zach – Is that the tune that goes “Never lose that Feeling”? I bought Zwan, have not given it a proper listen, but I do like most of what I have heard. Mary Star of the Sea is a nice long tune, love those guitars, all 3 of em’
Date: Sat Feb 8 01:15:15 2003 Name: Fester City/State/Country: Toronto Comment: Would have to agree totally with Deep Seat. However, there’s something about Cars Converge On Paris that really gets me…it sounds hopeful without gettin’ its hopes up. Although, I think the saddest tune has to be Duress. Even then, it gets me so pumped up that its hard to call it sad. They just fuckin’ rock “.”
Date: Fri Feb 7 21:13:49 2003 Name: Zach City/State/Country: L.A. Comment: Just listening to Zwan’s “Lyric,” and I swear I just heard a classic Swerve lyric. Listen closely….

Date: Fri Feb 7 13:45:16 2003 Name: Dan’l City/State/Country: Chicago Comment: Deep Seat = most excellent, tasteful solo. I brought this along to a drinking session at Clownie’s where we were all supposed to bring in our one and only favorite solo. Kinda lost on the crowd. They *did* concede it was too short. Fuck’m anyway. All “Wrong Treats” does for me is make me want to get in my stellar ’88 Caprice and drive. “LDoE” can get a little maudlin with people around, but works well if everybodys’ high. “Good Ships” is by far the most creepy and the most beautiful of the lot. Best served as a nightcap with Newcastle and Vicodin. Totally jealous of the spaceland report – as a drummer I’m positive I could sit in on a set like that and do it justice. Hope to do it here in town sometime. “we lie and stare at the ceiling…”
Date: Fri Feb 7 12:44:20 2003 Name: blown away City/State/Country: silverlake ca Comment: saw adam franklin play at spaceland last night (silverlake, ca) with all systems go! backing him up on a mini-set of swerdriver stuff, which i have to say, fucking rocked. the band seemed to be fans and super excited about playing some of these (old) songs, and there were three guitar players including adam, which really made it sound almost more like the records than swervedriver did with the four-piece lineup. the drummer especially was great and the sound couldn’t have been better. too short of a set. adam was having guitar troubles on the first encore and couldn’t figure out which pedal was messing up his signal. after about 2 minutes, he finally realized his guitar was turned down….very rock n’ roll. i recall that they played rave down, wrong treats, how does it feel to look like candy?, never lose that feeling/never learn…feels like i’m forgetting one. anyway, it was great….
Date: Fri Feb 7 11:06:34 2003 Name: james City/State/Country: brooklyn Comment: This is my last day Listening to when Ann cries and swears and kisses all her lover’s ex-lover’s lips She’s only known the flights of ecstasy (and agony) and she’s never felt lost throughout all of this But she’s really had it this time …
Date: Fri Feb 7 07:24:26 2003 Name: Ian City/State/Country: Glasgow Comment: Dunno about the saddest feeling but Deap Seat must be the most emotionaly torn piece or music ever. the whole sound along with those lyrics sends the hairs on my arms into space and brings a tear to my eye every single time I hear it with out fail and I still stand by the fact that its got the best guitar solo and outro of all time. Perfect within its own context.

Date: Thu Feb 6 16:56:55 2003 Name: Mike City/State/Country: Boston, Ma. Comment: I dont think any of the songs sound sad, but as far as lyric content goes, Last Train to Satansville is a broken heart type of song. “Ya see my babe is gone away too long…”
Date: Thu Feb 6 16:45:51 2003 Name: james City/State/Country: brooklyn Comment: Over! don’t say it’s over…i can’t believe it’s over…i want to see it all…i want to breath it all…it’s all i can do to swim closer to you…

Date: Thu Feb 6 15:00:15 2003 Name: Erik City/State/Country: Raleigh Comment: Which Swervedriver songs do you think have the saddest feel? (Emotionally, that is). I think defintely “Wrong Treats”, “Good Ships” & “Last Day on Earth.” “Deep Seat” may qualify, but that tune makes me feel so goddamn good. -E

Date: Wed Feb 5 05:12:23 2003 Name: Sheriff Truart City/State/Country: LondonTown Comment: Right, Just One question. I am an avid literature fan and I am wondering if Jez’s Book will ever be published? I am sure im not alone in my query because its a common fact that 99.9% of swervedriver “fans” are just literature buffs waiting for Jez’s book. I am sure they aren’t bothered about the band much.
