Date: Fri Mar 28 11:36:32 2003 Name: Hairyhaw City/State/Country: Glasgow Comment: Uhhh, well, I too have a Japanese ’62 re-issue sunburst Jazzmaster which I got in ’94 I think and is in dire need of a refret! Picked it up for around 600 quid as well so obviously the MIJ’s price has been fairly constant over the years. As for Jazzy’s without switches, I have never come accross any without them. Are you maybe getting them mixed with Squier Jagmasters? If not, then you’ve seen a rarity my friend! All your other questions can be answered I think on this site which also has lots of tasty photos: http://www.jagandjazz.com/jagandjazz/jmaster.html Hope this helps.

Date: Sun Mar 23 14:47:32 2003 Name: Dave City/State/Country: Hudds Comment: I didn’t ever think this time would come where I would be talking about “MY” Jazzmaster. (ahh bliss) well the model I have is a Made In Japan 1962 Re-Issue in Vintage White with a Red Tortoiseshell Pickguard. (what a mouth full) I got my Japan Re-issue for Β£600 as a UK import. A USA made ’62 reissue is about Β£1300ish I think. I am unsure about the difference between them, I am sure the USA ones are of higher quality, wood and electronics etc. Some people say that Japanese Jazzers have Stratocaster pickups in them and not real p90’s. However I dont think my Jazzer sounds anything like my strat. I also think Japanese ones are wired differently. I think I might get my guitar wired to USA and put some Seymour duncan vintage p90’s in it. I am not sure. I haven’t ever seen a Jazzmaster without the switches at the top on it. Now as for the Jaguar and the Jazzmaster they are both similar except the pickups are different, the Jazzmaster has P90’s in it, I dont know what the Jaguar has in it. The jaguar doesnt have a 3 way pickup selector switch, it has three seperate on/off switches that allow more configurations to be set. I am sure Hairy will know more about this than me. (while we are on this topic I just thought I would add that my Jazzmaster is being nicely “broken in” and its starting to get that oh so wonderful used feel to it. Excellente’) Why mike? are you after a new geetar?
Date: Sun Mar 23 12:18:10 2003 Name: Mike City/State/Country: Boston, Ma. Comment: One more question guys: What is the difference between the Jaguar and the Jazzmaster? The pickups??
Date: Sun Mar 23 12:08:55 2003 Name: Mike City/State/Country: Boston, Ma. Comment: Dave and Hariy – What type of Jazzmasters do you guys own? Reissues, originals? What is the difference(besides price) in the USA and Japan reissues? Also when did Fender start the little switches on the guitars, I have seen some early 60’s Jazzmasters without the switches, just volume and tone knobs.

Adam Franklin has recorded four new songs for his disc and a reworking of the Swervedriver song ‘The Sound & The Times’ off 99th Dream. Here is the tracklisting. Toshack Highway disc: 1. The Streets The Spin Off, 2. Cannery Row, 3. Country grass, 4. (She’s Got) Celestial Navigation 5. The Sounds & The Times / Sianspheric disc: 1. Song For 2. Beneath The Ocean Floor 3. No Space 4. This All Happened 5. Aspirin Age. If you would like more information on it, email me at sean@sonicunyon.com and I will do my best to answer you questions promptly.
Date: Thu Mar 20 10:26:51 2003 Name: Fester City/State/Country: Toronto Comment: We live in an age where black and white solutions are a rarity. It is the hipocracy of ALL the governments involved in this situation that is at a premium. The states are now having to deal with a threat (Saddam) that they helped create in the ’80’s (their support of Iraq vs. Iran). Where was France’s sense of world peace during their nuclear weapons testing in the mid-90’s? – for which the Americans and several other countries were opposed to and likely one of the main reasons why the French oppose the Americans now – Tit for Tat, which is even more hilairious when the French participated in the first Gulf War… The reality is this: those are French built nuclear reactors in Iraq, and the question is…how would you feel the day that Saddam (or his sons, regime) acquire nuclear weapons? The whole thing is a bloody mess. It’s a war of lesser evils which is a tough war to support, but nevertheless, the world can’t truely be safe until this is resolved.

I agree with not going to war, Especially if its killing innocent people for oil/money. I’m not saying Saddam is a nice person but its just the innocent people who are going to die for no just cause. It makes me sad…I’m with u bertrand
Date: Thu Mar 20 04:55:47 2003 Name: Bertrand City/State/Country: LiΓ¨ge/Belgium Comment: Is it possible ΒΎ of the american people agree to the war? If so, did GWB propaganda get right into the mind of disorientated people? The medias aren’t objective anymore and did you know an extremely large majority of the world is against the war, but is there any US media that talks about the anti-war demonstrations that took place all around the world? What the fuck is this going on? Why you americans don’t you have this critical mind? How can an anti-France feeling grow only because they don’t support such an illegitimate war? Peace is it really a vice? Too much stupidity for me. I’m disgusted. Who will reconstruct Irak after? Europe…as it always happens. Who will take control of the oil? USA… Bill Clinton probably tears his hears out.

Although sounds like someone is trying to book Adam in San Fran very soon! The rest of SxSW was great; this was the best year I’ve been to in 13 years…seriously. Mark Gardner played a brilliant set of new and old stuff one evening. He actually played 3 times over the whole festival. But his night show was the one I saw and videotaped. He played all the classics: Drive Blind, My Dreams Burn Down, Vapour Trail (dedicating it to it’s writer, Andy Bell), Leave Them All Behind, Twisterella & many more. The Pollyphonic Spree played several great shows at the conference too. They are touring soon and most certainly will not be a band forever, so I highly recommend checking them out. Schatzi had two good showcases. The other highlights I got to see were: Grandaddy (they were actually a little rusty), Eisley (up & coming TX. band managed by Coldplay’s mgr), Pilot to Gunner and Recover. I was really impressed by Sondre Lerche (sp?)…his SxSW show was the last show of his 1st U.S. tour and he was in great form. Part Nick Drake, part Jeff Buckley. Death Cab for Cutie was great too…and that was just some of the bands I had time to see. Shows I missed because of various conflicts included: Spoon, …trail of Dead, Yo La Tengo, John Doe, Centaur, Cat Power, Idlewild, Mary Lou Lord & a zillion others. It truly was a great year at SxSW. Adam and Mark Gardner’s set’s just made the whole conference unreal…seeing those two space-rock legends laughing together after Adam’s gig was a special moment too. Steve, make sure and shoot me an e-mail with your current mailing addr. and I’ll send you a video. My e-mail is the same. Werd.

Date: Mon Mar 17 02:35:24 2003 Name: marc City/State/Country: austin, texas Comment: O.K. So yes, I’m one of the lucky motherfuckers that got to see Adam rock on Friday night. Mark Gardner was in the audience too (and he was cool as fuck…just hanging out drinking beers…talking shit with the texans). But yes, Adam, was of course, amazing; I videotaped the entire set (for those of you up for a trade). Lift to Experience was great…I imagine them being even better in dallas tomorrow night considering they’ll have 2 shows under their belts. Anyway yes, Adam did a cover by Arthur Lee’s old band, Love, that was spot-on genius. Adam’s guitar tone was over the top, Fender jag thru a vox combo with a just a few pedals…it was loud, but it sounded like butter…the room was filled with about 300 people that were all beaming from watching their guitar/songwriting/singing hero. Girls and boys, old and young. Everyone in the room knew that getting to see Adam play was a godsend; he hadn’t played in Austin since 1998. Rave Down, Son of Mustang Ford, The Hitcher, Sci-flyer, Last Train to Satansville: it was truly beautiful…and Adam was smiling.

And for those of you who dont know, LTE is the complete shit. The best album of 2001. Ok, so there have been a few changes in the last few days concerning the shows that are happening with Adam from Swervedriver. I guess the first is to mention is that the sxsw show has changed venues to Club 505 instead of zero degrees. Second on the list would be that as you might well know, the silverleaf show in denton has been changed to Sunday the 16th. Doors open at 9:00 pm and the line up will be rf programme, Mandarin, Adam, then Adam with us. The next night at the gypsy tea room the line up will be The Mona Jane, Josh T. Pearson and Adam/us(Bear and I). We are planning on playing different stuff at both shows, so try to come to both if you can. It’s a great chance to see and meet Adam (he’s really nice, so say hi), and it’s also something that might not happen again…at least for a long time anyway. Hope to see everyone out at the shows, take care

Adam is currently a car salesman in Detroit- I hear Mustangs are his speciality. Jimmy has recently been awarded the Gold cup in the Tetley round-the-world race in his boat, the ‘Saucy Sue’. Steve is playing bass in Girls Aloud’s backing band. Jez still likes to wear womens clothes. Hope this helps.

Date: Tue Mar 4 02:40:41 2003 Name: danno City/State/Country: NYC Comment: Not that I really need to extol the virtues of Swervedriver on this board, but I have really been digging 99th Dream lately. It has been on constant rotation in my car for a week. Very good stuff. Other than that, the Red House Painters, who are defunct also, are really blowing me away, when I’m here at the computer until crazy hours of the morning. Their version of McCartney’s “Silly Love Songs” totally kills, as well their cover of the Cars “All Mixed Up”. It is almost hard to tell they are the same songs! Seek and ye shall find!! Cheers, Dan

They’ve really grown as a band, and I suppose unsurprisingly, mostly since they went with an indie label… Anyone planning on taping Adam at SXSW? That would be a really cool addition to the download page…

It was renamed to mickey but then renamed to MM Abduction because disney had a problem with the name or something like that. So it was like MM (mickey mouse) was Abducted from swervie!

It’s not hard to figure out the real reasons. I talked to the walking wounded little boy of yours today. He’s upset, disillusioned from the disillusioning, if that makes sense. Anyhow, take care. Talk to you soon.
