Okay, Im admittedly not the biggest reggae fan of all time. However, at least a handful of times per year, I seemingly always mix my town’s most well known reggae band. This makes me a little more receptive as they are killer people, killer musicians, and just a total blast. I’ve recently dug into the oldest I guess, classic reggae that I could find. The clean sounding mid to late 70’s stuff by Marley and whomever else still doesn’t do much for me. But Im really drawn to the real gritty primitive scratchy sounding dub related stuff. Like a lot of nasty sounding Lee Perry stuff, and early Bob as well. Im diggin it, and besides, I love playing with delays when mixing, and dub is all about delay.
