I saw them on Monday night. They played nearly all of my favourite songs and Out of Control fit in nicely. They were a bit ropey at times but that’s understandable being their first gig in 20 years. It was a timely reminder of how good those songs are.
Keen to see them but nothing for Scotland – Manchester in November appears to be the farthest north they are venturing at the moment.

That doesn’t mean we all wouldn’t like to see Jimi Hendrix playing again! Here’s to the Jimi Hendrix’ resurrection!!
I think the thing that blows my mind a little is the fact that the whole of the Experience are dead now, not just Jimi.
Going back to McGee, I’ve always wondered what his position was on SWD – never got the impression he fully endorsed them. Its not like they ever ate up much chapter time in any Creation retrospectives either.

Well, along with the Swervies, Ride were the reason I started playing in bands.
I thought they were pulling away from the rest of the pack a bit with Going Blank Again – they were totally messing around with genres, going dubby in parts, it was really original. I think the only weak song for me was Making Judy Smile, and even then a was a good twist on The Byrds.
I did get put off a bit by the album after, Carnival of Light, and it polarised a lot of folks at the time because it was such a change from the previous two. I look back on it now and think its a pretty decent effort – you just have to look at it away from the baggage of the other two albums.

That reviewer enjoyed Young Fathers a lot more than me – the rapping might have been full of confrontational lyrics but I couldn’t make out a word they were saying half the time, it was all a bit of a mumble. The SWD review was odd – didn’t actually say a lot about them, and was more of a veiled dig at Andy Bell out of Ride joining Oasis rather than concentrating on the Swervies.

Cheers Chris, it was a good tune. I checked Setlist.fm to see if anyone had put it up but last gig they’re showing is London, although I see Mogwai, Fuck Buttons and Twilight Sad’s setlists have been posted.
Have to say the gig itself could have been a little better organised – I left after Wedding Present but my mates stayed and I got told later they had to wait 1hr 20 mins in the queue for beer.
